Stamford students win the sweepstakes trophy at the annual academic meet with 184 points from 65 entries. They led against about 30 schools as Tim Gross claimed two first places in junior high number sense and slide rule.

Stamford City Council Begins Review of Zoning Ordinance
The Stamford city council opened the first reading of a proposed zoning ordinance covering residential commercial and industrial developments. Meetings will continue to review commercial and industrial sections before public hearings. The body also approved bids for a water signal system and codefication of ordinances and renewed lake lot leases. Norris Russell was named to the Housing Authority and a mobile home at 1100 N Swenson was approved. The council authorized Texas Municipal League representation in Austin for a Lone Star Gas rate hearing at about 23 dollars.

Probation recommended in Jones County hit-and-run conviction
Jury convicts Pete Perez Jr. of felony failure to stop and render aid for a May 31 1974 crash near Stamford injuring two youths. They set a max five year term and recommended probation after hearing of prior DWI and Perez claiming no awareness of the collision.

Regional aging survey targets 60 plus in 19 county area
West Central Texas Council of Governments with North Texas State University and the Governors aging committee conducts a needs assessment survey of 60 and older in 19 counties including Jones, Haskell and Stonewall. A random sample of 300 will be interviewed by March 15, with 20 from Jones, 11 from Haskell and three from Stonewall. A Feb 21 Abilene workshop yielded 30 interviews under leaders Ken Elder Mark Sizemore and Mrs Chris Ryker. Stamford Lions plan a chili supper Feb 28 at the Lions Club Building from 6 p m tickets from any member.
