Tuxedo Boy Ready To Stand Watch on American Warships
Reed Elton Baize 18 of Tuxedo Texas has qualified to stand signal watch on an American warship. He graduated from the University of Illinois Naval Training School of signalmen and awaits fleet assignment. He may become a petty officer after a qualifying exam. The 16 week course covered blinker semaphore flag signals and storm warning procedures. Baize was selected for service school based on aptitude tests.

Death of E E Stroble at 51 in Stamford hospital
E E Stroble died of a heart attack at Stamford Sanitarium Tuesday Evening. The Wichita Falls area resident, father of Mrs B Q Cooper, had been brought from the Cooper home by Kinney ambulance. Burial followed in Burkburnett Cemetery beside his wife with services held Wednesday afternoon. He was born June 7 1892 near Grandview, Oklahoma, and is survived by four grandchildren, his mother Mrs Sarah Stroble of Apache Oklahoma and three sisters.

Average Pension Slightly Higher Than in January
The Old Age Assistance rolls gained 70 in January to 183,362 with February payments totaling 3,780,023 from state and federal funds. The average payment rose to 20.62, up 31 cents, while 1,284 aged residents died and 678 were dropped for ineligibility. 2,032 were added. Blind rolls rose to 4,180 with 27.40 monthly aid. Dependent Children payments total 254,093 for February as 11,875 families receive about 21.40 each.

Tidwell Prisoner of War Report Reaches Family
Pvt. James T. Tidwell Coast Artillery Corps is listed as a prisoner of war of Japan in the Philippine Islands. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Tidwell of Lagerton, received word Wednesday and await a confirming letter from the Adjutant General. Tidwell had been stationed at Fort Mills near Manila when last heard. The family thanks friends for prayers during the long months.

Stamford will continue the Cadet club on a curtailed basis with weekend hours. City Manager Grady Bowdry said funding may come from future USO drive allotments, and the city council supported continuing the project under this reduced program. Funeral service for Fritz Havemann aged 68 of near Sagerton was held at the family residence with Rev. Bradt presiding. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery near Sagerton. he died February 17. Survivors include his wife Clara, two sons Fritz Jr and Louis, four daughters and nine grandchildren.
