Captain L M Medlin of Temple earns the Air Medal for a 25 mission record by November 12 1943 as flight leader of fighters in China Yunnan province bombing strafing attacks on a target area despite heavy anti aircraft fire. He started fires and damaged barracks with fragmentation bombs.
Lt Wade Youngblood first lieutenant in the US Army Medical Service has been sent to Walter Reed General Hospital Washington D C for convalescent soldiers His wife and sons accompany him in Washington
John Melvin Terry Jr the son of Mr and Mrs Melvin Taylor was sworn into the Navy in Lubbock at age 18 and sent to San Diego for boat training. He previously served in the Texas Defense Guard and was a CAP member at enlistment.
Charles Cooper is to receive his degree at the University of New Mexico where he has been enrolled under the Navy V-12 program. He spent time with his father and mother in Abilene and New Mexico and returns Wednesday night to finalize his graduation.
Piwetz has been sent to Avon Park Florida after spending eleven days here with homefolks. His employment details remained unclear but notes say he was formerly in training as an air force mechanic at Amarillo.
A note reports that reserve officers the United States Army at Virginia have been sent to New River North Carolina for a three month training course.
Pvt. Orr has joined the army and is stationed at Camp Abbott Oregon on January 18. He is assigned to the engineering unit and his family remains in Liy Mesa. He is the son of Mrs J P Orr of this city.
Jack Robinson son of Mr and Mrs W EB Robinson of Stamford was promoted to fireman first in the recent graduation exercises at the Naval Training School Diesel at Iowa State Ames Iowa. He proceeded from there to the Naval Air Station at DeLand Florida.
Sergeant James MecClintie of Groes, nephew of Mrs. Guy Bates, was wounded in action in Italy. He received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Stee McClintie was wounded in the leg.
Lieut. K. W. Muse, formerly stationed here, is in military service with the MET to Ind Seran Tobruary, undergoing basic training in the United sees.
John S. Davis and 8. J. Roberts known as Moe and Speedy, Stamford High School 1942 graduates, are in the Coast Guard. Both completed boat training. Davis is at a radio operators school and Roberts at a gunnery school, each rated seaman second class.

Mrs Henry Rinn aged 72 died Monday morning at Stamford Sanitarium after illness. Born Henriette Brune May 28 1871 in Austin county she married Henry Rinn Dec 27 1888. Survived by four sons Alfred Elmer Alton Herbert. three daughters Vanderworth Teichelman Wendeborn. a sister Minnie Runge and a brother Edward Brune. Burial at Old Branden cemetery with Sons of Herman and Barrow Home in charge. Grandchildren total 26 with several in armed forces. pallbearers and flower girls named.
The first of a seven session course for scoutmasters will be conducted by a county district committee. T. R. Tinsley will chair and serve as course scoutmaster with Bill Braymer H S Fitzgerald of Stamford and Eddie Jay of Hamlin as assistant scoutmasters. R N Eastus will be senior patrol leader with various scoutmasters as patrol leaders. Members of troop committees and assistants will participate. Stam ford High School will host the Army Navy College qualifying test on Wednesday March 15. Superintendent L W Johnson announced that application blanks are available at the high school and the test is open to male civilians aged 17 to 21.
Jones county residents from Stamford including Sanford Hodge Nat Wash and Stanley Cook head to Lubbock for Navy induction. Hodge operates the Grand and Palace Theaters and will leave his business to his wife and Sanford Jr. to manage. Wash leaves Nat’s Cafe. his wife will care for their children. Rev S H Young district superintendent announced Bishop H A Boaz will speak at 4 p.m. Sunday March 5 at St Johns Methodist Church in Stamford. Song service led by Rev Will Matt Culwell with organ by Rev Kenneth Copeland. Group meetings at 3 p.m. led by O W Tooley with Irene Stewart and Mrs R L Kirk directing. All church school workers urged to attend.
The new ration token plan starts March 21 replacing the old system. Two green and rye stamps cover processed foods while brown and red cover meats fats and oils. Blue and red stamps issued February 27 are each 10 points.

Richard Heflin died at Stanford cancer ward at 6:30 p m after a lengthy illness. A funeral service was held Tuesday at 3 30 p m at First Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in Highland cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home directing. He was born March 5 1893 in Waller County and lived in Stamford area most of his life. He married Lilla Beth Graham on September 10 1926 and worked at Dobyns Jewelry before opening a home watch shop in 1937. He is survived by his wife two brothers seven sisters and several relatives. Pallbearers and flower bearers are listed.
The Reynolds Street PTA formed a nominating committee for next year with Mrs. J. W. Frizell Jr. presiding. Members named were Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. Roy Arledge, and Mrs. L. F. Metz.
