The Stamford National Guard unit joined about 20 000 guardsmen statewide in a Saturday afternoon alert. By 4 30 p m 75 percent reported to the armory. Stamford City and School Tax Collections End of January
Tax collections in Stamford and the Stamford County Line Independent School District were near last year’s levels as of January 31. City and school totals show similar percentage collection with slight dips in the district from the prior year’s peak. City Manager Harry Steenson noted over 90 percent of city taxes were collected by February 6 after final payments. School District tax collector R. E. Hall reported about 92 and a half percent, down from 93.90 percent the previous year, with discounts for early payments and delinquencies offsetting overall totals.
