J Frank Dobie, renowned Texas author and educator, will deliver the featured address at Stamford Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet on Thursday April 19. The program notes his extensive career with Southwestern University Columbia Rockefeller Foundation and served as England professor, with many works including Coronado's Children and The Voice of the Coyote. 2000-Pound Safe Stymies Thieves at Coca Cola Plant
A burglary attempt at the Texas Coca Cola Bottling plant on North Swenson Avenue left only a few tools and loose change. The over 2000 pound safe was dragged from its concrete base, doors removed, and moved to a rear workshop without accessing the money compartment. The entry via a pried back window suggested a coordinated effort, and dawn likely interrupted the theft.

Spur Youth Robert Proctor Funeral Tragedy
Stamford relatives and friends attended the Spur Funeral for Robert Lee Proctor 15 nephew of Mrs Roy Arledge. Proctor died from injuries after a car crash with a flatbed truck his family in Spur mourns his loss. He was a Spur High School sophomore and athlete. He died at Hendrick Memorial Hospital Abilene after being injured in the crash. Three classmates survived uninjured. funeral held at Spur Church of Christ with Willis Jernigan and Melvin Ratheal officiating. He is survived by his parents Carl and ? Proctor a brother James Earl 3 and other relatives.

James Brigham of the Tuxedo 4-H club raised and showed the champion 775 pound Angus steer named Ricky at the San Antonio Livestock Show. Bred by Tommy Brook of Cap San Saba Texas. City Pig Owner Foils Burglary Night Twist
Ches ter Burson, owner of the City Pig at 612 Fast Hamilton street, chased an intruder who had entered Sunday night around 10:30. In a brief struggle he struck the burglar with a screwdriver. the man fled with a head wound and nothing appeared missing.

Connally Sends Update From Japan on War Injury
D P Connally spoke to his parents by telephone in Japan and said he hopes to come home soon. Wounded early in December in Korea, he is in his third hospital in Japan and is improving. He is the son of Mr and Mrs B H Connally of Rotan where he is the thief of police.

New Stamford Coach Visits Here Saturday
Jiordan Wood new Stamford High School head coach visited Stamford Saturday seeking living quarters for his family. He has not terminated his Winters position and will begin work March 1.
