City water project back on track after rain delay
After nearly ten days of rain stoppage, Stamford resumes water system work with about 150 men. Austin Bridge Company leads earthwork with an elevating excavator and trucks while J. Floyd Malcomb Company prepares nearly a mile of new 12 inch pipe to by pass the settling basin. A salt water well reaches 300 feet as concrete work begins on the treating plant and Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company fabricates two large storage tanks for treated water.

Trent Man Dies in Highway Crash Near Stamford
J. S. Thompson 53 of Trent dies from a fractured skull after a car on the Stamford Hamlin road hits a concrete culvert. Miss Nola Maples and A. B. Webster of Trent are injured and treated at a sanitarium. The crash occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday as the trio returned to Trent. faulty steering is blamed. Thompson died within 30 minutes. Funeral services for Thompson were held at Roby Church of Christ with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. He was a farmer seven miles north of Trent, survived by a daughter and two sons, plus a sister.

Ex-President Hoover Makes Unscheduled Stamford Stop
Herbert C. Hoover and his son Allan halted in Stamford Tuesday morning after a minor auto mishap on West McHart avenue. The Connell family, nearby witnesses, recalled misjudging a left turn as Hoover’s car rammed the rear of a Model A. Allan Hoover apologized and offered to pay for damages, which Connell deemed slight.

Funeral held at Kinney Funeral Home chapel with Robert O Beaman officiating and burial in Highland Cemetery. Mrs Jaye of De Leon was seriously ill and could not attend.

Visiting Singers At White Cross Mission Revival

The Joyland dance hall and beer tavern just north of Stamford limits were wrecked by a midnight blaze caused by an oil range explosion. Operators were Joe Brooks and Dewey Stubbs. The building, long in Stamford’s business district as the Joyland Theatre, had recently moved to the beer area. A new beer joint is planned just outside the city, with operator undecided.
