Airport Closed Until Inspector For CAA Arrives
Stamford Municipal Airport is closed along with several state airports and can reopen only after a CAA inspection and certification. Ericksdahl Folk Rally to Help Sick Neighbor

Avoca residents gathered at the high school Monday with about 160 people to organize a civic plan. A. Humphrey Dr Dallas Southard and Clyde Westfall from Stamford explained the plan and assisted with the organization. L H Lawrence named president Claude Williams vice president and C A Williams secretary reporter. Four districts were formed north east south and west with committeemen named for each district and three assistants to be named from their districts. Each district listed leaders for food scrap iron bonds and machinery repair. Committees will meet Monday night at the school to advance the movement and seek broad cooperation.

Civilian Registration Set For Weekend in Jones County

Third Hangar Under Construction At Stamford Flying School
Improvement and enlargement of Stamford Flying School at Stamford Arledee field are underway. A new barracks unit to house 68 cadets rises south of the two story building and should finish in about two weeks. The new sewer system will also be completed in about two weeks. A third hangar is being erected north of the second hangar with steel framework arriving by rail. The 211 acres purchased by the city and leased to the school are being cleared for use. Graduates from the present upper class report to Randolph Field Tuesday with a dinner dance Friday night for about 350 attendees. A new class arrives next week from Kelly Replacement Center to become flying sergeants after training. New student officers include Monroe W. Graham as first captain, Gene C. Miller captain of Company A, Edward W. Linder captain of Company Volume. Major Bob Arnolds visited on an inspection trip from Victory Field. Second Lieut. R. F. Templeton, 28, new to the Air Corps Training Detachment, is in charge of operations after joining from the University of Chicago.

Jones county civilian registration opens Saturday February 28 from 3 to 6 pm and Sunday March 1 from 3 to 5 pm. Walter Pickett Rains 73 died Thursday at 3 a.m. from a stroke of paralysis. Funeral Friday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Rev. H. S. Hinson and Rev. Miles B. Hays officiating. Burial in Highland Cemetery. Dennis-Barrow Funeral Home in charge. Survived by wife, son O. H. Hardy, stepdaughter Mrs. Lela Slater, grandchildren Olen Hardy Nook Wandine Hardy Mare Belle Hardy, brothers Rafe Boon George, sisters Mrs. J. H. Putman and Mrs. Sally Berry. Newspapers and magazines gathered at the Red Cross room were sold to the American Paper Stock Company and Mrs. M. York. A check for 56.32 was received for the sale, funds placed in the production program. The total weight reached 10,880 pounds, mostly non paper items.
