Texas Cowboy Reunion directors set the annual event for July 4 5 and 6 with Monday Tuesday and Wednesday sessions. Improvements at the Reunion grounds include rebuilding the south grand stand to seat about 3 000, boosting total grandstand capacity to 10 000 while bleachers stay at 3 000.
Stamford gains an extra five percent credit for a good fire record, raising the total credit to twenty percent effective March 1. State Insurance Commission bases credits on five year fire loss averages, saving Stamford policyholders about $2,100 next year.
The February PTA meeting at the high school aud torium covered Moran Street school reports, reference books for Moran students, ill student care by the board, home room mother activities, and donations. Officers for next year will be nominated at the Moran Street meeting.
Hf Cooper announced plans to enlarge Cooper Camp east of Stamford by ten cabins. The new section will be strictly modern with one two and three room cabins. A rock finish will be used for the houses.
The report outlines four new tests starting soon in the Ivy pool and northeast area with Fain-McGaha and partners moving spud rigs. An Iron Mountain No. 2 well near the Beck location is prepped, while multiple offset wells in Shackelford and Throckmorton counties strive to spud within days amid wet weather delays.
Congressman Marvin Jones from Texas outlines the new farm bill's goals and key features. It preserves soil conservation, funds foreign markets, offers commodity loans, addresses freight rate discrimination, funds new uses and research labs, allows farmer votes on marketing quotas, and expands conservation payments for small farmers while protecting tenants. The measure aims for fair treatment, long-range farming policy, and gradual improvement.
Secretary Wallace announced a 1938 cotton production goal near 10.75 million bales under the crop control act, with a 26 to 26.6 million acre national allotment. A referendum within 30 days would let eligible 1937 cotton producers approve marketing quotas to meet the target.
Stamford citizens including Louis Rosenwasser and Stephen Bennett attended the Chamber of Commerce banquets in Hamlin last Friday and in Haskell Tuesday night. The Stamford party at Hamlin included Mayor Thomas and other chamber leaders. six men joined the Haskell event lineup.
Rain totals over three days reach 4.03 inches boosting moisture for grain stock water and spring crops. Data from W P Lyles show December 1.46 inches and January 1.42 inches with February already at 4.03 inches. 1997 had no rain in February.
Some 45 Methodist young people from eight towns joined Stamford delegates for a two day quarterly meeting at John's Methodist Church last weekend. Speakers included Frankling Weir of McMurry College as president of Methodist youth and Frances English of Saskell as district director. The program focused on The Christian Life with talks by Lenore Longino and La Rue Abbott. Representatives from Lueders Avoca Haskell Munday Seymour Spur Rule Aspermont and Stamford attended.
Mrs. Frank Moore 92 died at the family home Sunday night at 7 30 funeral held at Rochester Methodist Church. Burial was in Rochester cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Survived by husband Edna Earle her daughter and J N Turner father and T J Turner brother Rochester sisters Mrs Walter Mooney Mrs Allen Bell and Mrs Ed Howard of Wicket.
Mrs Stephen Bennett, secretary of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce since March, was re elected for the year at a board meeting. Louis Rosenwasser, new chamber president, presided and directed roundtables. Committees named cover agriculture highway civic improvement oil and industrial retail advertising and publicity finance with members including George J. Smith J F McCulloch W Dodson and others.
FE. L. Hatehingon spoke as Exchange Club president and J. M. Radford Grocery Stamford manager on the impact of employees in a business. Hutchinson noted labor force trust builds firm reputation while Thomas warned unhappy staff can harm business. Boston announced March 15 gathering with home economics class meal and dramatic club program.
Mrs. RFE Hall traveled to Sterhenville to stay several days with her mother who is ill, offering assistance during the mother's illness.
Walter Treidel a Jewish refugee from Germany arrived in Stamford with his story of leaving Hitler and loss of his father's Mayen drygoods shop. He will work as window decorator with Otto Berlin in Stamford and adapts to life in the United States.
The Stamford High School Senior Class will stage Make Yourself at Home a three act comedy Friday night February 18 directed by Ben Cole with Mrs Jewel Austin as sponsor. Set in the Grant home in Glendale the cast includes Janice Kuie as Mrs Grant Boo Bandeen as Stevens and Bob Bryan as Rodney Grant with Wayne Hargrove Ellen Lorene Cook Frances Prewit Bill Miller Bernadell Bush Helen Smith Bus ter Lovvorn Jessie Mae Gill Sallie Jenks and Dr Kyrie Doran. The High School Band will play earlier and between acts.
Jones county farmers receive soil conservation checks totaling 845 456 19 this week. County agent Floyd Lynch announces 6 7 checks arriving from the state office and cards notifying recipients were mailed from the agent's office.
Avoca high school boys basketball ends its conference slate with a 25 to 20 victory over Hawley. The win gives Avoca 32 victories and two losses in conference play as the county title race remains unsettled and a district meet in Abilene looms this coming weekend.
The Stamford Independent School District cannot fund a modern Moran Street School without higher tax valuations. A board letter to the Stamford PTA followed a February 15, 1998 meeting with the building committee. Officials cited aging facilities, remodeling doubts, and past WPA-era bond limits, showing district taxable valuations dropping from nearly 5 million in 1900 to about 3 million in 1947, constraining bond approvals and local funding.
