Three Plants Considering Locating Here in Stamford
Information released Tuesday shows three textile plants may locate in Stamford. Bill Koon of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce notes proposed plant sizes of 38 7 and 15 million dollars. The chamber will mail a detailed form to the Texas Industrial Commission in Austin. The TIC is gathering site data. Koon cites ample water as a primary need and a projected three to one male to female labor force ratio.

Strong Wind Triggers Fire and Brief City Power Loss
A Monday strong wind knocked a power line near the Smith Gun, igniting the burr box and causing a temporary power outage in southern city areas. Fire Chief Bill Lawson said the 5:36 pm blaze spread to burrs and lint in the gunyard, with flames watched until 9:30 pm. Minor fires and damages followed in the week, including a burr box fire at Grantham Gin and a motor damage claim for an O. M Isbell automobile, plus a trailer truck engine fire near the Stamford American. Grass fires were extinguished on New Braunfels Street, 311 S Porter Street, and the railroad right of way three miles northeast.
