When Stamford fire insurance rose to ten percent of property value residents formed a volunteer brigade led by Col. Penick and Dr. Sledge. The first equipment included a hook and ladder wagon and hoses. a 50–60 man force helped defend blocks near McMillan and Moran with a boys brigade forming soon after.

Hamlin official Jack Russell named general fund chairman for the Jones county Red Cross drive to raise 1661 this March. Campaign starts March 1 and runs through the month with quotas for Stamford Anson Hamlin and county balance allocated. WMU Mission Study Institute Set for Friday
The WMU Study Institute for Jones and Haskell counties meets Friday at First Baptist Church in an all day session. A covered dish luncheon at noon accompanies readings of The Grashams of Greenway and Heirs of the Soil led by Mrs Truett Sheriff Abi lene and Mrs K Woodrum Abilene. Friends and acquaintances mourn the death of Mrs. Clara Barnes formerly Mrs. Jim A. White. After years in Stamford she lived in Seattle where she passed away after a heart ailment. Mrs H S Fitzgerald of Seminole suffered burns to her right hand and minor injuries after lighting the gas stove oven during a 5 AM gas smell. An explosion erupted as she struck a match. She was hospitalized then sent home to recover. Rev and Mrs A G Fitzgerald visited Seminole to see about her.

Ten Year Old Paint Creek Youth Tops Haskell Show
Wilfram Lee Sims a fourth grader from Paint Creek won grand champion in the junior milkfed class and took reserve in the top heavy milkfed at the Haskell County 4H Club and FRA Livestock Show. A total of 33 calves competed across dry lot and milkfed divisions with top entries from Mattson and Paint Creek 4H and Haskell FFA. Roy Rhoades won showmanship with a calf bridle as Roy McClung and others judged by Baylor county agent.
