Scouters and families gathered at Stamford Country Club Thursday night to celebrate Boy Scout Week. Rev. Jerry Boles served as master of ceremonies and introduced leaders as units performed stunts. Seven cub scouts earned Bob Cat awards and four scouts received tenderfoot ranks. Service pins were awarded to several leaders and parents, including a 30 year pin for Tommie Rector and a training pin for Mrs. John Bennett.

Two Boys Repeat With Champions At Stock Show
Bobby Rogers of Stamford FFA and John T. Treadwell of Jones County 4-H Club each earned second year champions at the Jones County Livestock Show held at the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds. Treadwell’s Hereford won first in the two-year-old cows class and was grand breeding beef cattle champion and grand show champion, with reserve in that department this year. Rogers’ Jersey won grand dairy cattle but was reserve last year. Rogers also claimed the showmanship award in that division two years ago. Reserve in dairy went to Mark Holloway. Pete Baker took two sheep championships. many trophies and cash prizes were awarded across departments. Attendance was high and the parade crowned the champions at 5 p.m.

National Guard Hopes To Add 17 Recruits in One Day Drive
Co M Texas National Guard aims to grow to 110 enlisted men and six officers with a Feb 22 one day recruitment drive at the armory. Captain James Lindsey notes parents will be encouraged to attend with their sons to learn about guard benefits including training, pay, and draft exemption for under 18 and a half.
