Dr. E. P. Bunkley announced plans to present the Group Hospital Service program in Stamford. A Rotary Exchange Club joint meeting may host Bryce L. Twitty of Dallas next week, followed by a mass meeting for the community. The service exists to serve salaried Texans and is endorsed by state medical and hospital associations.

Oldest Citizen of Stamford Dies at 96
Julia Wharton Nugent age 96 Stamford's oldest resident died last Friday at 5 am at the home of Mr and Mrs W D Kight with whom she had lived since 1936. Funeral held Saturday at Avoca Baptist Church. Burial in Springcreek Cemetery. She was born November 3 1843 in Black River Louisiana and came to Texas by ox wagon 72 years ago. She had no immediate family. survived by nephews and nieces.

Former Tuxedo Man Appointed to California Fish and Game Board
W. B. Williams of Alturas California son of Mrs. Dick Williams and sister of Miss Lou Williams of Tuxedo has been named a member of the California Fish and Game Commission by Governor Culbert L Olson. Finnish Relief Cash Still Being Received After Drive
Large quantities of old magazines and newspapers were donated in the final days of the Finnish Relief Fund drive. Major contributors include Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bennett and others. several thousand pounds were shipped to Abilene free of charge. Cash is still needed and totaled $18 previously received by the American and sent to the Dallas state office.

W O Simpson dies after short illness in Stamford
Walter Osborne Simpson 64 died Sunday at 5 am after a two day illness from a heart ailment. Funeral held Monday at 3 pm at the family home conducted by Rev H S Hinsen. Burial at Highland cemetery. He was born June 6 1875 in Mt Pleasant and married Lorena Simon December 11 1895. Survived by wife a daughter Mrs Claude Day two brothers D M and W M Simpson and two sisters Mrs B A Richards and Mrs A W Chummey.

Col. R L Penick recalls Stamford's early boom when wagons of cotton filled the square and locals camped at wagon yards. Trade came from Stonewall and nearby counties. Mondays and Saturdays were busiest as travel was by horseback or wagon. Livery stables, wagon yards, and boarding houses thrived with workers and buyers planning months ahead for groceries and supplies. Clerks were in high demand as towns grew and stores expanded to meet rising commerce.

Former Cornth Girl Found Dead Near Plainview
Mildred Eatelle Franks 30 and Hawley Garner were found dead from bullet wounds in Plainview. Franks, born July 22 1906 in Hill county, had lived in Plainview nine months and previously in Silverton Avoca and Stamford. The Prophet J P Siler investigated at the scene with burial at Springcreek cemetery.
