Stamford Brothers In Navy See Action In Korean Area
Two Stamford brothers Witzel and Norman Ward sons of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Ward are in the U S Navy with one aboard the USS Forrest Royal and the other on the USS Horace A Bass They trained in Abilene Dallas and San Diego and later served in radar school in San Francisco Norman 18 and Witzel 20 have seen combat reports from Yokosuka and Yokohama with bombardment scenes near Kansong and the eastern front lines Their wartime paths began after Stamford High School graduation in 1949 where they starred on the Bulldog football team.

County Baptist Training School To Begin Feb 25
Jones County Baptist Association prepares a week long training school from February 25 to March 2 in 22 of the association churches. Eleven home and foreign missionaries will speak nightly with Sunday services at all churches. Lunch stops planned at Hamlin First, Stamford First, Avoca, Lueders, and Anson. Missionaries include Dr. T. C. Bagby, Helen McCullough, Mary Charlotte Alexander, Dr. B. L. Nichcol, Rev. Robert L. Carlisle Jr., Rev. Stockwell Sears, Hannah Fair Sallee, Letha Sanders, Dr. J. B. Bounds, and Rev. Olive W. Riley. Further plans to be announced.

Cub Pack 41 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet Monday at St. John's Methodist with 160 attendees. J. J. Moody retired as cubmaster, and Harry Benson was introduced as the new cubmaster with a new committee. Awards were presented including silver and gold arrow points and various badges. Marvin Berry praised Pack 41 as the largest in Jones, Shackelford and Jones counties.

Mrs. R. L. Stokes' Mother Dies At Bryan
Mrs. S. H. Willingham widow of a Baptist minister died at a Bryan hospital Saturday night after a cerebral hemorrhage. She was 77, mother of Mrs. R. L. Stokes of this city. Funeral held in Marlin Monday. she lived with Marlin ties, and survived by daughters Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Durham, Mrs. Jowers and Mrs. Turner and sons J. B. Willingham and M. H. Turner, plus 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Snow Drifts Hit Stamford Area Tuesday Night
Snow blankets Stamford and surrounding areas with a few inches to six or eight in drifts. Moisture began as sleet around 10:50 p.m., then turned to soft wet snow. Monday highs reached the mid 70s, then fell sharply Tuesday as a high wind worsened the chill. By Wednesday afternoon temperatures moderated and the ground absorbed the moisture.

Stamford Man Killed in Korea
Jesse Herpeche about 20 was killed in action in Korea on January 31 according to word from the War Department to his father Abie Herpeche. He lived in Stamford most of his life and was the first from the community to lose his life in the Korean conflict. He entered service about eight months ago. Survived by his father and three brothers in Stamford, his mother in Sherman, and three sisters. He was unmarried.

Stamford Junior Chamber of Commerce members voted unanimously to accept directing the Jones County Red Cross drive set to begin March 1. Guests at a luncheon included Mr and Mrs L Brooks and son Bobby Vernon Mr and Mrs KR Harwell Hamlin and Mr and Mrs Walter Grimm and children Joyce and Larry Tuxedo.
