Slow intervals over a week brought 2.01 inches of moisture to Stamford soil by Tuesday morning. Observers say the rain was more beneficial than a heavier rain, though tanks remained unfed. The region, in West Texas, has seen above average moisture this winter.
Miss Jewell Faulkner leads the 4 H Bedroom demonstration with scores for sanitation lighting interior finish furnishings storage and appearance. Winners advance to state with district participants listed and a foundation pattern workshop set for February 22 in Anson with a noon picnic lunch.
A second rabbit drive on Flat Top Ranch is set for Washington's Birthday Friday February 22. The west side land along the Orient railroad will be covered starting at 8 30 or 9 00 from the C T Overby farm six miles north of Hamlin oil mill lunch will be served after the drive two beeves will be barbecued and local women will provide cakes and pies in the afternoon the plan is to drive a mile or two south of lunch spot then drive back west to clear a three or four mile wide strip of destructive rabbits.
The Elizabeth Jackson Circle of the Jones County W M A met Monday with Miss Lilias Penick to study covenants in the Old Testament. Mrs J H Weldon opened with prayer and Mrs W H Wright led the lesson. Members present included Mesdames Dobbins Medlin Ramey Hicks Mile Moore and Miss Georgia Thornton. The circle will meet again next Monday with Miss Lilias Penick.

A Boy Scouts banquet featured Rev Robt O Beaman as invocation and was hosted by Troop 41 in Stamford. Leaders and district officials attended as Troops 40 41 and 51 were recognized with advancement ceremonies and merit badges. An exhibit of Scout handiwork drew much attention.
A publicity training school for home demonstration agents in District No 2 will meet March 21 at Stamford city auditorium. Mrs Minnie Fisher Cunningham and Miss Lida Cooper will conduct the sessions with demonstrations and closing discussions. A noon picnic lunch and writing a news story of the morning activities are planned.
W I McKaughan a 39 year old Anson farmer was sentenced to five years in prison after a Haskell district court jury found him guilty of murdering J W Foster at Stamford in an incident at the Blue Bird Beer Garden near Stamford January 31. The defense plans a motion for a new trial. A deputy testified Foster's body was found and a hammer was found on McKaughan during his arrest.
C W Kight returned to Stamford to lead Southwestern Life Insurance Agency here and the company supports him with an advertising campaign. Dallas based Southwestern Life notes a 15 million increase in in force during 1934, marking selective improvement after years of decline.
Hawkins prominent landowner and early Fisher county settler died at Stamford sanitarium after paralytic stroke months earlier and a hip fracture from a bed fall. Kinney Funeral Home prepared the body and Elliott Funeral Home in Abilene conducted the funeral.
Rev W C Collins announces revival at White Cross Mission will continue through the week weather permitting. Evangelist Ottoma Echols conducts illustrated sermons and will present more. Mrs George Collins sings in Delaware Indian language.
Pastor Sam Morris says the county is stirred by beer joints as weathered church attendance held strong with 869 in Sunday School and over 400 at evening services. He vows to fight vice, naming local supporters and pledging to expose patrons of these establishments.
P R McCray longtime Jones county resident and 1933 Cow Boy Reunion fiddling contest winner died of a heart attack soon after illness. He would have been 93. Survived by five daughters and two sons with numerous grandchildren. Funeral held with Home director Reverend Os Se eneynera. Also notes P R Wiseman 75 of Hamlin, 1934 winner, died January 31.

Jack Jones well known farmer and longtime Jones county resident died at his home on Moran street after strokes. Funeral at St John s Methodist church with interment in Highland cemetery. Survived by wife four daughters one son and two grandchildren.

Pre-Lenten services start at Saint Luke's Church with Holy Communion at 11 a.m. Sunday February 1. The Rev. William H. Martin leads morning rites while Rev. Alex E. Hanson oversees nightly services. Hanson, a rising Episcopal minister, will preach on February 24 with the topic to be announced.
