Institute of Understanding Lectures Set by Stamford Rotary

The Stamford Rotary Club will host an Institute of Understanding every Wednesday in March at the High School Auditorium. Four international speakers, including Dr. Ethan Coulton and Manoah Leide-Tedesco, will address topics from world poverty to business futures, with a season ticket costing $1. Dr. Allen D. Albert will reprise a prior year talk, and lectures will also be given to students at no charge.

Same Officers Elected by SPCA Directors

Stamford Production Credit Association re elected its officers at the directors meeting in Stamford. J B Pumphrey Jr remains president and J F Mculloch as vice president with J L Hill Jr secretary treasurer and Paul L Summers assistant secretary treasurer. Several directors from neighboring associations attended as training plans were announced for eight counties served.

The Quality Cleaners tailor shop owned by Marvin Hinds has relocated to the north side of the square in the former bowling alley building. The shop was previously on South Ferguson Street.

Russell Doran Joins Barrow Furniture Co Succeeds Roy Cochran

Russell Doran now employed at Barrow Furniture Company succeeding Roy Cochran who resigned to become school tax collector. Mr and Mrs Doran moved from Haskell. he formerly lived here. Tests show 16 apple varieties with vitamin C about five times that of prior estimates.

Plans complete for Hamlin 4-H FFA Livestock Show Saturday

The third annual 4 H Club and F F A livestock show will be held in Hamlin Saturday with a 9 30 a m parade and 10 a m judging. Judges are E R Eudaly of A M College and J M Bird of the soil conservation service. Prizes total 500 and beef and dairy calves lead the parade. Entries must be owned by Jones County 4 H or F F A boys, animals weighed at Pioneer Gin by 9 a m, and entries limited per class. Show includes beef cattle, Jerseys, hogs, sheep and poultry with judging at 10 a m in order. Parade led by Anson Stamford and Hamlin bands. Show preparations begin at Pioneer Gin by 8 30 a m.

Mrs Cora Wilson to Lead Stamford Cooking School March 17 19

Mrs Cora Wilson, noted Southern home economist, will lecture at Stamford Cooking School March 17 18 and 19. The event, organized by Southern Newspaper Features, features demonstrations on budgeting economy meals kitchen equipment and new recipes with gas ranges and gas refrigerators used in demonstrations.

James A Clossin to Teach Folk and Square Dance in Stamford

Stamford WPA Recreation Department brings James A. Clossin to Stamford on February 13 and 14 for free folk and square dance instruction. He will teach advanced and beginner groups, with Clossin noted as a WPA Area Supervisor in the El Paso District and a six year veteran of organizing dances nationwide. He assists Texas Tech audiences yearly and helped form several square dance groups in Lubbock. he is linked with the championship winning Texas Bluebonnet Belles who later triumphed in New York.

Stamford Men Attend Abilene Chamber Banquet

Final Tribute to Mrs. M. O. Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. M O Johnson were held Sunday at the family home and Bethel Lutheran Church. Born Linnea Seastrom Snygg in Sweden, she lived in Jones County since 1914 and married M O Johnson in 1919. Survivors include her husband and two young daughters.

Stamford Hosts First County Boy Scout Merit Badge Show

Jones county held its first merit badge show in the Stam ford city auditorium drawing over 1,000 visitors and about 200 scouts cubs and leaders. Scouts from Hamlin Anson Lueders Tuxedo Hawley Stamford Haskell and O'Brien took part with displays demonstrations and an archery range. Scout Sunday was observed at Central Presbyterian Church with sermon on What is a Boy Worth.

Fire destroys two Douthit warehouses in Stamford blaze

A Wednesday fire swept through two corrugated iron warehouses owned by C. A. Douthit Bonded Cotton Warehouse, destroying 3,927 bales of cotton valued around 200000. The government owned most of the cotton except 300 bales bought by Douthit. Each building carried 1200 in insurance. cotton policies held with a Dallas agency.

Poultry School Announced by Gladys Martin

Gladys Martin announces a Poultry School with George P. McCarty of A and M College and home demonstration agent. Meetings are February 17 at 2 p.m. on the Poe farm east of Nevida and 7:30 p.m. in Marrs community church. The program features the Poe flock of black minoreeps and a quarterly short course to address flock care and management.

Five new members joined the Business and Professional Women's Club at Stamford Inn during the Thursday night meeting last week after a three course dinner. Sixty Methodist Pastors Laymen Attend Meeting

About 60 Methodist pastors and laymen from the Stamford district gathered at St. John's Methodist Church for an all day event led by district superintendent Rev. Tom Johnston. The theme Evangelism featured morning sermons by Rev. Kenneth Copeland and Rev. Luther Kirk with afternoon talks by Rev. W. Carl Clement and T. W. Ellzey. Lunch was provided by the Woman's Society of Christian Service led by president Mr. Jack Jones.
