Father and Son Banquet Tickets On Sale In Stamford

Stamford men are canvassed this week to buy Father and Son Banquet tickets for the City Auditorium event next Tuesday night February 19 at 7 30 pm. The committee urges every man to bring his son and to engage boys in the Scout movement as a path to character, urging purchase of tickets to support the program and its aim of guiding boys toward a clean better life.

New Stamford Chamber Names New Directors and Manager

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce expanded its board from 15 to 25 members. New directors elected include R. L. Penick, R. V. Colbert, A. C. Cooper, Cc. O. Moore, W. B. Tayman, R. B. Bryant, A. L. Buster Reece Pratt, B. P. Davenport, A. J. Swenson, C. E. Coombes. W. S. Bill Cooper will arrive Friday as the new chamber manager to assume duties. Committees for 1929 were announced by President T. A. Upshaw, listing members across ten standing panels such as Membership and Finance, Highway, Railroad, Oil and Gas, Poultry and Dairy, Parks, Traveling Men, Fair, Whiteway, and Airport.

King of Kings Draws Large Crowds at Alcove Theater

For three days Stamford audiences packed the Alcove Theater to view The King of Kings. Manager Burt King praised the huge turnout and the work’s artful acting, color scenes, and synchronized phototone music. Local visitors included Hugh Turner of Spur and Mrs. Haygood of Haskell visiting Mrs. Baggett.

County Basketball Tournament Set for Stamford

The Jones county Interscholastic League hosts a two day event at the Stamford high school gym on February 15 and 16 with teams Hamlin Neidna Stith New Hope Swans Chapel Hawley Oak Grove and Stamford. Nevada the defending champion faces strong competition as games begin at 2 30 pm and 7 pm. Winners advance to semi finals and final play Saturday night at 7 00 pm with the victor advancing to Roby for the district meet. admission is 25 cents per group of games.

Church of Christ to Hold Revival Meetings

Cled E. Wallace of Temple will lead a revival series with the Church of Christ in Stamford starting March 10. Wallace is a leading Texas evangelist known for a forceful speaking style. The public is invited to all services.

A and P to Open Stamford Store in Larche Building

The Great Atlantic and Pied Tea Company will open an Stamford store about April 1 after leasing the east side of the square from L F Larche. Larche plans three brick buildings on South Ferguson street with two 15 by 60 foot stores and the Larche Grocery Company occupying one. Construction starts once materials arrive. The A P chain will occupy the Larche building when ready, with ownership centralized under the chain system.

City Hall Addition Contract Lets For 7000

The city council awarded the contract to F. D. Jones for a north end brick addition to the City Hall. The 1700 square foot expansion will cost about 7000 dollars and be finished in 45 working days. A seven pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. George O. Coker in Dallas on Saturday.

Road Bonds Sold in South Half of Tones County

Anson February 14 The county commissioners sold road bonds totaling 461000 to Brown Cramer Company of Wichita after bids by 15 bidders. Five percent bonds from district No 10 sold at par with premium 262 while 500000 worth of series BE bonds sold at par with premium 194. The court said it had a good day and noted readiness to begin highway construction once routes and right of way are secured.

Blizzard Sends Temperatures Down to Nine Degrees

The storm struck Stamford Wednesday night with ice sleet and snow. The thermometer dropped to nine degrees above zero by Friday morning. An inch of snow fell after a prior sleet fall, adding moisture to dry ground and improving plowing conditions for farmers.

Stamford Considers Dual Six Story Hotel and Office Unit

A proposal to build two six story structures in Stamford would create a hotel and an office building of similar design on the southeast square corner. The office block would cost about 125000 to 150000 dollars and the hotel more, with shared roof garden and interlocking ownership possible. Four County Odd Fellows meet in Stamford next week

The Four County Odd Fellows Association comprising Jones, Haskell, Fisher and Stonewall lodges will gather in Stamford Friday February 1. WTA to Start New Jee Plant at Bramford Site

Weat Texas Utilities Company planned erection of a new Jee plant on the Rast McHarg and Ferguson property in Bramford after selling the twe-stery residence to J Bryant. W G Ownley, retail manager, said construction would begin once the lot is cleared. Bryant prepares to move his house to Fate on East Moflarg avenue as part of the property transition.
