Jack Norman Named New CofC Manager for Stamford
Jack Norman of Littlefield was chosen Monday night to lead the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. He won from seven applicants to replace A. C. Bishop and will move here with his mother. Norman, 50, served as Slaton Chamber manager before wartime Marine service, Guadalcanal veteran, discharged 1945, now works in a Lit tlefield war surplus business and is an accomplished vocalist. Plans call for him to arrive ten days before Bishop’s departure to assist with the fat stock show and April meeting. Other finalists included C. T. Kelley James Frizell W. H. Teal N T Underwood J T Bryant and Mr Williams.

Prominent Jones County Farmer Dies in Gunshot Incident
Ray R. Rushing a Jones county farmer died at his home Tuesday at 6 15 am after a gunshot injury. An inquest led by Judge Jack Bates with Dr. C W Williams Dr E M Wood and local deputies confirmed the death. Burial followed at Highlands Cemetery in Lueders with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Rushing born April 21 1888 in Alabama married Mary Ellen Fannin in 1914 and moved to Jones county in 1920. He served as Baptist deacon Masonic lodge and school trustee. survived by his wife three sons four daughters three grandsons and three brothers in Alabama.

People in the Stamford area are buying 1948 automobile license tags at a fair rate. Buster Upshaw of Upshaw and Upshaw said the firm acts as selling agency in the city. Plates went on sale February 1 and by Tuesday noon 187 had been issued. Motorists have until April 1 to purchase them.

CARE Box Funds Raised At Civic Music Concert
A CARE box for overseas shipment was funded by free will offering during intermission at a Civic Music concert. A little over $10 was reported by Mrs. F. E. Upshaw. Youth Fellowship members from St. John's Methodist Church organized the effort with Doris Johnson Ann Thomas Geneva Jo Brown Lillie Gladys Musil and Ethylene Kelley. The money was placed in an umbrella labelled Pennies from Heaven near a CARE display, and the plan will be repeated at the final concert.

Pastor and Robbers Reunite in Jail Sermon Reprieve

Alfred E Olson Dies at Age 90 in Stamford
Alfred E Olson, 90, a long time resident of the Erieksdahl community, died Wednesday morning after declining health. Born in Sweden, he immigrated as a child and later lived in Nebraska, near Wahoo, Travis County, and Jones County before settling in Stamford. Survived by three sons, four daughters, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several siblings, funeral arrangements are pending with Kinney Funeral Home.

King Suffered Injuries In January Accident
Richard King son of Mr and Mrs J C King of San Angelo was gravely injured January 15 and moved from Shannon Memorial hospital to his family home where bedrest is expected for about three months. He has a broken arm facial lacerations and brain concussion. The family formerly lived here.

A new wave of winter brought subfreezing temperatures to 11 degrees at 8 p m Wednesday with snow covering the area and icy mix. Snow fell overnight and Thursday morning as butane transport halted north of the region, affecting fuel supplies while natural gas conditions improved from prior shortages.
