James Elbert Lovvorn a Jones county pioneer family member died of a heart attack at his Stamford home Thursday night about 9 p.m. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Miles B. Hays and Rev. W. R. Underwood officiating. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. Lovvorn born February 15 1884 near West McLennan County came to Jones County in 1906 married Lula Clark in 1915 later widowed, remarried Lura Beauchamp in 1953. Survived by four sons two daughters eight grandchildren and many relatives.

Final Rites Held Here Sunday For John P. Kight
Funeral service for John Paty Kight was held at 3 30 p m Sunday at Swenson Avenue Baptist Church. The service was led by his son Rev J P Kight of Fort Worth and several area ministers. Kight died Friday February 5 after a two week illness from a heart attack. Burial was in New Hore cemetery with Kinney and Son Funeral Home in charge. He was born July 31 1891 in Iredell Bosque county and lived in Stamford most of his life. Survivors include his wife Mrs Bama D Kight and son Rev J P Kight, his mother Mrs Mary Kight, brother Bill Kight, step siblings, a grandson and a granddaughter, and a niece. Pallbearers were local men from Abilene Fort Worth and Stamford. Out of town relatives attended from several Texas towns.

A new formula to compute cotton acreage allows Texas farmers to plant 8,719,178 acres, using either 65 percent of the three year average (1951 1952 1953) or 49 percent of the highest annual planted acreage, with a cap of 47 percent of total farm land.
