Plane Assigned CAP Group 9 for Air Recruiting
One of nine Army Air Forces liaison planes for the CAP air cadet recruitment program was assigned to Group 9 and brought from Waco by Capt Roy Arledge. Group 9 covers Stamford Abilene Sweetwater Breckenridge and Spur with a new plane equipped with parachute and two way radio. Only CAP pilots with private licenses and over 150 hours flight time will fly the plane for cadet and WAC rides after checks by Arledge or a designate. All riders must have a signed Army release from parents. All nine Texas CAP planes will attend the statewide CAP gathering in mid February.

Stella McClesky Dies in Rochester and Abilene
Stella McClesky, deputy clerk for Taylor County, died Monday in Rochester. Funeral was held Tuesday at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Abilene with burial in the Rule Cemetery. She worked in Abilene for 10 years in an abstract office and as deputy county clerk. Earlier she was employed by Penick Hughes in Stamford around 1926-27.

Henry Isbel a longtime Plainview resident died at his home near Malakoff January 11 1944 of a heart attack. He was buried in Malakoff. Born in Alabama in the 1880s he moved to Texas as a young man. Plane crashes near Stamford after Abilene airbase flight
A plane from Abilene Airbase crashed about six miles south of Stamford on Monday. The pilot parachuted safely to the ground about 100 yards from the wreck and was uninjured. The aircraft was destroyed and an investigation by an accident committee followed.

George Blake McLaughlin 83 died last week in Glen Rose after a heart ailment. Funeral at St. John's Methodist Church was conducted by Rev. S. H. Young with Dr. O. P. Clark assisting. He owned farm property near Star and was a retired farmer merchant. He was born March 4, 1860 and moved to Jones county in 1906 from McLennan county. He married Annie Miller in 1917 and is survived by a son, a grandson in the Navy, a sister, and two brothers plus several relatives.
