Six inmates escape Jones County jail in midweek breakout
Six prisoners escaped Jones County jail in a Tuesday morning disturbance. Jailer Arden Beasley was attacked by trustees Charles S. Brogdon and Clark G. Bryan who helped free inmates and seize keys. Beasley later imprisoned. sheriff Dan Reyes notified. Other escapees include Franklin Ransonette, Bobby G. Brown, Bobby Glenn Woolf, and Mickey Ray Jett, with various charges. A stolen Sonson Butane Co truck was later found abandoned in Hamlin.

Lease Sought On Lueders Land For Quarrying
Terry Lankford representing Western Limestone Co asked Stamford city council for a lease on 35 or 40 acres at Lueders to quarry stone. He proposed $100 yearly plus three cents per cubic foot of stone. The council sent City Manager Steenson to inspect the tract and report back. SCS Survey To Determine Lake Stamford Fill
The Soil Conservation Service received city approval Friday to conduct a sedimentation survey at Lake Stamford. Joint effort by SCS, California Creek Soil Conservation District, and Stamford city will run four to six weeks starting after April 1. A cable across the lake at water level will be marked by buoys and may pose hazards to boaters. boaters should proceed with care and remove trotlines during the survey.

Claude Green age 27 of Route 2 stays in critical condition at Stamford Memorial Hospital after a 3:08 a m Sunday car truck crash in the 800 block of North Swenson. He suffered severe facial lacerations when his car rear ended a transport truck driven by Clarence W Wilson 51 of Leeders. Wilson was uninjured. Paramedics transported Green to the hospital. He is the son of Mr and Mrs W C Green of Route 2.

Rites Held for Bobby Brigham Gunshot Victim
Funeral services were held for 12 year old Bobby Vernon Brigham who died from an accidental gunshot wound at Stamford Memorial Hospital. The Rev Dan Royal and Rev Charles Beal officiated at Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Tuxedo. He left Reynolds School for lunch and was found with a stomach wound from a .22 rifle. The shooting was ruled accidental by Justice Roscoe Hood. Survivors include his parents a sister Alice grandparents and several relatives. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were community and school members.

Stamford city officials award Ciider and Holt Construction Co a contract to remodel the west end of the old auditorium into a city garage. Dickerson oversees parts of the work with city street and water employees. An overhead door will be added and the stage removed to allow vehicle storage. Cotton Growers Outline Plans for Coming Year
Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Inc met Feb 1 in Sweetwater with 27 directors from 14 of 31 counties. The group, with Texas A&M Extension Service and National Cotton Council, plans an educational program starting at community level to improve regional cotton production and boll weevil control. Beginning June 1, ten two man insect survey teams will cover all counties, aiding a potential area-wide program.
