Income tax expansion hits millions in 1933

Washington shows new tax law forces all workers earning over set weekly amounts in 1932 to file 1933 returns. Compulsory vaccination urged at Stamford Rotary Luncheon

Dr. Dallas Southard urged the Stamford school board to require immunization against diphtheria typhoid and smallpox for all entering pupils. He cited a Fort Worth case upholding such orders and urged voters to back trustees who favor compulsory vaccination.

Mrs. Pleas Curd Dies. J. D. Curd’s Mother Passes

Mrs. Pleas Curd, mother of J. D. Curd, died at her son’s home in Waco at 7 a.m. The funeral will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Central Christian Church in Stamford, conducted by Rev. B. Harris. Burial is planned at Titeland Cemetery.

Specialist Opens Office in Stamford by Dr Frank Scott

Dr Frank Scott, formerly of Lovington New Mexico, has moved to Stamford and opened an office at the Inn. He is an eye ear nose and throat specialist.

Annual Boy Scout Banquet Honors Four Troops

Despite severe weather more than 180 attendees at St John’s Methodist Church for the annual Boy Scout banquet. Ed Shumway opened with song then presented awards including the Presidential Achievement to troop 40 and a charter for troop 41. Tenderfoot and other classes were awarded to multiple Scouts from troops 40 and 41 and Rotary troop as the 23rd anniversary of Scouting neared.

Strid Gustafson Pioneer Resident Dies at 72

Anders Johan Strid Gustafson 72 died of a heart attack at his brother A A Gustafson's home Wednesday night. Born February 14 1861 in Sweden he settled in Jones County in 1887 aiding Stamford and Jones County construction. Funeral services Friday at 11 in Bricksdahl Church with pallbearers listed. survivors include brothers Oscar and A A Gustafson two sisters in Stamford and California.

Exchange Club Honors Local School Scholars at Friday Luncheon

The Exchange Club celebrated academic achievement at a Friday luncheon with honors for Beverly Hart and Tony Selmon from the High School football team and Willie Cleone White, plus Margaret Harris from the Intermediate School. Principal T. R. Tinsley praised the students, noting business success links to high grades. A swimming pool project for Stamford was discussed, with a committee appointed and Dr. L. F. Metz added to the program committee.

Time Extended For Paying School Tax Without Penalty

The school board extended the deadline to March 1 for paying delinquent school taxes without penalty or interest. Tax collector W. C. Leavitt said the extension applies to 1992 taxes and those of past years.

Oklahoma Man Injured In Head-On Crash Near Wienert

Guy C. Danielson 34 of Oklahoma City remained unconscious in Stamford Sanitarium after a car wreck 142 miles south of Wienert. His 1983 Plymouth driven with E L Miller of Oklahoma City collided with a Haskell bakery truck. Miller and Danielson suffered serious injuries while Charlie Rose escaped with a scalp wound.

Sam Morris Launches KGKO Radio Hour for North Texas

Ford V-8 Set for Show Here This Saturday

The Ford V-8 with 112 inch wheelbase will be displayed in Stam ford Motor Company showrooms at 206 North Swenson Avenue this Saturday. Earl M. Johnson says crowds are expected and dealers will explain features of the new car noted for its 75 horsepower engine, modern styling, wider steel bodies, and advanced aluminum cylinder heads for better speed and economy.

Governor Grants Three Conditional Pardons

Governor Miriam A. Ferguson issued three conditional pardons on February 3. Finis Goree 25 years for murder in Jones county May 1927 Orewe Pond three years for violating the prohibition law in Cherokee county February 1932 and Shannon Rothwell five years for transporting liquor in January 1928.
