The Whirlwind Poultry Show in Stamford concluded a six town circuit with about 500 birds shown. Winners include J. O. Jackson and J. W. Pritchett among several Leghorns, Rhode Island Reds, and other breeds with multiple pullets, cockerels, and hens earning top spots.
Rev. W. C. Moffett begins his third year of pastorate at the First Baptist Church in Stamford. In two years there, the church added 220 members and raised $21,500 for all causes, about one third for outside Stamford. He came from Georgetown after more than three years there and says his family enjoys Stamford and hopes to stay long. The article also lists numerous poultry show entries from local residents.
Col Penick lauds strong interest and good weather as the Central West Texas Poultry Show proves a historic success. He predicts doubled poultry production in 1927 and urges local clubs and directors to organize, boost breeding and marketing, and unite communities across the region.
The Bunker Hill boys won the rural basketball championship of Haskell county, held in Stamford last Friday and Saturday. First time Bunker Hill secured the rural title. Notable players included Norbert Boedeker and Elmer Boedeker, with Clinton Fourqureau and Robert McIntyre among others. The Bunker Hill girls also won their county section and will advance to the tournament in Haskell.
The record notes awards across multiple breeders with Light Brahma entries. Howitt of Stamford secures first and third in pullets and cockerels. Hamlin earns multiple pullet placements. Hamburg and J. F. Hudspeth of Rochester claim top hens and pullet placements including first and second cockerels.
A two day program on Monday and Tuesday February 21 and 22 features morning talks on The Educational Use of Knowledge by H S Mobley and Bringing the Kitchen Up to Date. Afternoon sessions include Feeding the Family Dairy Talk and Home Gardens with moving pictures. Evening programs showcase Power Behind the Orange and Communities Are Made of Folks with community singing and music by local groups.
The Ford dealer Townsend Motor Company leases the Kinard Building on North Swenson from R M Kinard Garage. Moving next week to consolidate all operations under one roof, the change adds space and revamps interiors with new fixtures machinery and a battery department. The Kinard building will be repainted and the future occupant remains undisclosed.
Friends of Mr and Mrs T J Bowen report six producing oil wells and three test wells on their Upton County property. The Port Worth Star Telegram notes they have already earned more than 76000 dollars in royalties. The Bowens lived in Stamford for years.
Miss Kowlerschke of Stamford was surprised to find a photo of her father Prof Constantin Kowierschke in The American’s magazine section in an article about school day games on the frontier. Funeral services were held for Mrs Burr in Dallas after a long illness, with a six year old son and immediate family. Interment followed in Highland cemetery beside her mother.
Stamford hosts a two day agricultural short course February 21 and 22 featuring 19 reels from the International Harvester Agricultural Extension Department. Reels cover farm efficiency milk beef pork corn sheep and fruit. aim to educate as well as amuse with guides on canning spraying hog health and orchard care.
Ny BL Tanner, County Agent reports Poultry Shows spon sored by Colonel Penick drew 470 birds at Stamford last day with week long exhibits. He promotes youth clubs and leadership, with Boys Achievement Club at Nugent, and calls for egg and education programs, farm leadership, and a nation wide effort through Bankhead and public schools.
Percy Jones pastor of St Luke's Episcopal church attends the Bishop's Crusade in Abilene Texas this week. The meeting opened Sunday and will run through Friday for Episcopalians in the region.
