Lieut Charles Sanders of Roswell New Mexico commanded four planes in the Leyte Gulf morning attack on October 25. He aided rear Admiral Sprague's jeep-carrier group against Japanese battleships cruisers and destroyers, with 300 planes following to strike the heavy ships and support the Philadelphia beach heads. Sanders is a Navy veteran with four years of service and is a grandson of A G Sanders known as Cop Sanders.

Five Die in Fire That Destroyed Robertson Home Near Haskell
Five persons perished from burns after a fire destroyed the A C Robertson residence near Haskell during a Wednesday night reunion. Victims include Mr and Mrs A C Robertson, their daughter in law Mrs Harris Robertson, their grandson James Douglas Robertson, and Mrs Lee Brown. Joy Gayle Robertson, age 6, is hospitalized at Stamford Sanitarium and not told of the deaths. Pvt Lavoid Robertson, home on furlough, learned of the tragedy. Dr Frank Scott, husband of Estelle Robertson, aided victims despite heart attacks.

S J Hodge seaman second class US Navy returned Sunday from Seattle after two months in hospital. He previously served in Benpita in the Hawaiian islands where he was stationed when he sustained an injury. He is expected to receive a medical discharge soon and will resume managing the Grand and Palace theatres. He has served since February 23, 1943. His wife and son Sanford Jr. remain in the area.
