Banquet Honors Scouts At Methodist Church Event
About 200 men and boys attended the Father and Son Banquet hosted by Boy Scout troops 40 and 41 at the Methodist Church. Jefferson Child Dies of Cancer at Age Five
Five year old Jeff Leonard Jefferson died at his parents home after illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at Kinney Funeral Home with Rev. C. R. Hooton and Rev. M B Harris presiding. Burial followed in Highland cemetery. He was born September 4, 1928 in Stamford and is survived by his parents sister Doris Faye and baby brother Ben.

Improvements To Be Made On City School Grounds
Work started Tuesday on the approved CWA project in Stamford to improve public school grounds. Eighteen men will be employed for 40 days with a total payroll of 5500 dollars. The grounds will be graded and drained, gravel added where needed, weeds cleared, and sod laid at the high school lawn and football field. Grass will be planted around Moran Street schools and the high school drive regravelled with a new parking space at the athletic field.

10c Loan Cotton Moves as Price Soars
Government 10 cent loan cotton began to move this week as farmers earned from 5 to 7 dollars a bale above loan and charges. Several hundred bales secured have been sold to Stamford buyers. About 17,000 bales secured are in Stamford with many expected to sell if prices stay between 11.5 and 12 cents. Cash circulation could reach 85 000 to 119 000 in the area.

Offerrell Daughtry 19, Stamford High senior, sustained a compound fracture and scalp wounds when struck by a car on South Orient Street Saturday night. Dorothy Baker, another high school senior, drove the car and blinded by oncoming lights, could not stop. Daughtry is not in serious condition and plans to keep up with studies during recovery.

A Model A Ford coupe owned by Ralph Miller of Hamlin was stolen from the northwest corner of the square between 7 and 10 p m Saturday night. Mrs. Miller was away at Stamford for a show and found the car missing on her return. The vehicle was recovered in Bartlett, Texas, on Tuesday wrecked and abandoned by the thieves.
