McMurry drive kicks off with Seymour district breakfast
Local resident John Harrell of Stamford will preside at a 7 a.m. Tuesday breakfast at Cliff House Restaurant in Stamford to launch the 1979 McMurry College Annual Fund drive for the Seymour district. United Methodist churches from Haskell to Sagerton will participate with ministers and volunteers. Michael Barry will present a slide/tape on the college. Other Seymour district kickoff meetings are set for Seymour on Monday and Quanah on Thursday. The fund began in 1973 to cover McMurry’s academic and general expenses. last year the district raised 13,236.97.

Agricultural loans rise 35 percent in 1978 PCA report

Stamford Board Adopts Policy Changes At Regular Meeting
The Stamford school board approved policy changes on the four year old migrant program and a 70 year retirement option with allowances for earlier retirees. Jury duty leaves will not be charged as sick leave and substitutes paid. A senior prom dinner at 1 a.m. was approved with ten new rules. Travel funds were set aside, band trip approved, election officials named, and several old policies deleted.

City sales tax declines across Texas cities in January
Statewide one percent sales taxes to Texas cities fell in January compared with January last year. Stamford received 2520.56, down from 4422.49. Area towns report varied changes with Albany 1253.47 down 21 percent, Aspermont 864.64 up 51 percent, Hamlin 1425.60 down 18 percent, Haskell 2741.55 up 7 percent.
