Rotarians will honor ladies wive s of members and widows at Cliff House for Stamford Rotary Club’s annual ladies night. Blackleg Outbreaks Reported in Jones County

Jones County Agriculture Agent Clayton reports several blackleg cases amid cattle losses. Dr. Ballard of Stamford confirms diagnosis. Lueders Cancels 42 Party Benefit

The 42 party planned in Lueders to benefit the March of Dimes has been canceled after funds exceeded the goal. Mrs. Wilford Nauert, chairman, said local efforts were highly successful and no further event is needed.

Lutheran Choir Concert Friday Night At Christ Lutheran

Christ Lutheran Church of Stamford sponsors an appearance by the Texas Lutheran College Choir in the high school gymnasium Friday at 8 o clock. Admission is free with a free will offering. Director Paul Engelstad leads the choir, which has toured in states and Mexico and earned wide acclaim.

Stamford Sanitarium Sold To a Local Foundation

The Stamford Sanitarium, a privately owned hospital, was sold to a non profit foundation governed by Stamford citizens. The new Stanford Memorial Hospital will operate as a community project with a staff from the former doctors and a rebranded clinic. The deal totals 152000 dollars financed by net revenues, with plans to improve parking and expand the board over time.

All-Out Drive for Screwworm Control Funds Urged

Stockmen and sportsmen in Texas and the Southwest are urged by the Southwest Animal Health Research Foundation to push a $3 million voluntary fund drive to eradicate screwworms. Chairman Charlie Myatt says a hard freeze may enable a screwworm-free Southwest by 1962, with potential savings of about 200 million over two years and up to 50 percent in eradication costs. A statewide kickoff is set for February 14 in Austin, with reports indicating over half a million dollars already on deposit across 120 counties and 212 counties hosting programs.

Wheatley Seeks Re election to 88th District Legislature

J C Wheatley a Democrat of Haskell announced he will seek re election as Representative of the 88rd District. He is serving his first term and chose to remain in Austin despite calls to run for Congress at large. The 83rd District faces many problems. Continued on page 6.

A two day basketball tournament begins Thursday at Stamford High School Gym. Freshman teams from Graham Merkel Grownwood Colorado City Go liad of Big Spring and Stamford enter the event. Sophomores from Colorado City Brownwood Snyder Wichita Falls and Stamford compete as the slate opens.

F C Keen 88 Dies in Stamford Hospital

F C Keen 88 a retired farmer and stockman died Wednesday at 7 15 am in Stamford Hospital where he had been a patient since January 14 He was born in August 1874 in Alabama and moved to Bell County at age nine He married Mary Lee Self on April 8 1895 and later moved to the Stamford area in 1906 Survivors include his son Sterling Keen Stamford and daughter Mrs Chester Yeatts Stamford Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 pm at Kinney Funeral Chapel with Rev Jack South erland officiating Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home guidance Pallbearers listed.

A series of ten free movie performances begins Thursday February 15 at the Grand Theatre. Tickets are distributed free at local stores with window placards. Shows run in the afternoon and at night, continuing for ten Thursdays.

Outstanding Young Area Farmer To Be Announced Friday Night

The Stamford area Outstanding Young farmers will be honored at a Friday night banquet at Clit House Restaurant sponsored by the Stamford Jaycees. Glenn Shelton of Wichita Falls Record News will speak. The nominee list was narrowed by judges. all nominees and judges attend. The regional winner plus spouse go to the Feb. 17 Greenville state banquet. Tickets are $1.50 and available from any Jaycee.
