Cotton quality contest honors two Lankart varieties at multiple sites

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee sponsored a cotton quality contest with six farmers and 27 entries. Lankart 3840 and Lockett 4789 tied for top honors based on Green Card and mechanical classifications, yielding strong lint with high micronaire readings and competitive loan values. Marvin Stanford led with first place and $170.61 per acre, followed by Don Walker in second and Charles Stenholm in third. plaques were awarded at Jones County Farm and Ranch Day on Jan. 24.

Cliff House Sold by Grantham to Local Native Randy Denson

The Cliff House in Stamford changes ownership from Cliff and Suzy Grantham to Randy Denson, a Stamford native and former Muleshoe teacher. Denson will run the kitchen with no staff changes planned, while the restaurant’s banquet and club dining room will continue to host events despite past fire damage and rebuilding.

Stamford Carnegie Library begins interlibrary loan service enabling patrons to request books not in local holdings by calling the Abilene library for access. If unavailable locally or regionally, the book is sought elsewhere and mailed to Stamford for a two week loan with postage as the sole cost. Xerox copies from archives or files cost 10 cents per page and are mailed under the plan.

An auction sale of L and F Construction Co. will get underway in Stamford Friday morning at 9 o'clock. B and L Auction Service will conduct the sale at the old Shamburger Lumber Co. location at the corner of Wethervee and Rotan streets.
