Berry L. Johnson, born June 17, 1858 in Georgia, died Tuesday at 1 30 p.m. at his Stamford home after illness since January 22. A February 3 service at Kinney Funeral chapel was led by Rev. H S Hinson and Rev. Sam King. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery near Tuxedo. He came to Denton County at 18 and lived in Lin and Ellis counties before Stamford. he was unmarried with no known immediate relatives.

SGT George Rivers Jr aged 23, a Stamford High graduate and Tuxedo, N Y native, was killed in action with the 36th Division in Italy after reaching Salerno beach. A member of the Stamford National Guard unit, he served since 1940, trained at Camp Bowie and Camp Edwards, and was known to friends as Red. He left behind his father, two sisters, two brothers, and grandfather J H Rivers. Letters home reveal his faith and resolve as he faced duty abroad.

David M. Guinn, 68, Spanish American War veteran and junior vice commander of Park Minter Camp Abilene, died Sunday after a three week illness. Born January 26, 1876 in Lockart Caldwell County, he lived on a Haskell county farm since 1915 with his wife Mary Rector Guinn. He survived by six children Willie D. of Rule Claude La. and John of Glenmore La. Two sons Roy Benton and John Lee Guinn had died earlier. Funeral services were held at Sagerton Baptist Church with burial in Capron Cemetery.
