One thousand passenger car plates along with 150 commercial 100 farm and 25 trailer tags were delivered to F E Upshaw deputy collector. R L Dunwody announced new license numbers from Anson. Plates are similar in length but deeper with larger black figures on white. Jones county gets 5300 numbers starting 744 851 to 750 150, Stamford first 1000 744 851 to 745 850. Licenses may be purchased now but cannot be used until March 1 and all vehicles must carry new numbers by April 1.

The City of Stamford reports 80.5 percent of current city taxes paid by Monday night January 31, with about $45,000 collected of the $56,000 1937 tax roll. Under new penalties, payments in February incur 1 percent, March 2 percent, April 3 percent, May 4 percent, June 5 percent, and from July 1 the penalty rises to 8 percent plus 6 percent interest.

Zack White Becomes Sinclair Station Operator
Zack White was installed Wednesday as operator of the Sinclair service station on West McHarg at Webp street. He previously ran the Conoco station No. 4 on North Swenson, turning it over last week to Jack Houston. H. C. McElreath, the former Sinclair operator, moved into Station No. 1 with Jack Lawson on West McHarg Avenue after years at the other site.

Stamford Boy Killed in Naval Air Collision
Joe Earl Walton son of Mrs. R. K. S. Walton of Stamford was killed in a mid air collision off the coast of San Diego California Wednesday night. Walton served in the United States Navy and formerly lived in Stamford. Burial arrangements had not been made Thursday afternoon. He is survived by his wife of San Diego and three brothers Auster Walton of Abilene and Frank and Pitt Walton of Sea.
