Fire Destroys Two Homes and Docks Oil Rigs
Stamford firefighters battled two city home blazes and two oil lease rig fires aided by cold weather. A fire at Mrs. Reuben Ward’s 8000 block Haskell home caused a top floor and ceiling collapse with most loss covered by insurance. A plastic bed cover ignited by a bathroom heater started the M. L. Timberlake residence fire. The Dietz oil rig near Old Glory burned lightly, with minor damage. The Clark oil lease rig six miles northeast burned for about four hours before control.

Final Rites For Henry Wersebe Conducted Friday
Funeral service for George Henry Wersebe 74 was held at Kinney and Corley chapel. He died Thursday visiting a daughter in Noodle after living in Jones county for years and running a Corinth store from 1920 to 1935. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery near Anson. He was born December 9, 1877 in New York. Survived by three daughters, a son, two grandchildren, and a sister.

Graveside Rites For J. H. Hayes Held Friday
A graveside funeral for J. H. Hayes aged 63 was held Friday at Pleasant Valley cemetery at 5 p m. Rev J H Skiles Baptist minister officiated and Kinney Funeral Home directed. Hayes had lived here for years and had no known relatives after losing all trace of kin following the 1900 Galveston flood. He suffered a heart attack Tuesday and died in hospital.

The Stamford PTA Council collected 610.56 for the March of Dimes during a porch-light campaign despite cold weather. Stamford Public Schools contributed 272.22 with teachers and pupils. 1951 Car Plates On Sale February In Jones County
Licenses for automobiles and other motor vehicles will be issued in Jones county as soon as the registration receipts arrive. They may be secured in Stamford at the office of Upshaw and Upshaw. The passenger car plates have an orange background with black letters and numerals. Anson Plans Bond Election On Three Proposals
Anson City Council announced a February 7 vote on three bond measures to overhaul water and sewer debt. A $50,000 revenue issue would fund sewer system improvements and repairs. A $120,000 revenue issue would refinance outstanding debt of the water works and sewer system. A further $50,000 revenue issue would fund waterworks improvements and repairs. The election will be held at City Hall with the entire city as one precinct.
