Staff Sergeant Frank Warren Rye of this city received the Silver Star for gallantry in action during an amphibious assault on enemy positions. He led his platoon ashore under heavy fire, killed four enemy troops in a trench, organized positions after the platoon leader fell, and exposed himself to enemy fire to repulse a strong counterattack before being killed by a sniper.

Pvt Bob Watson, pictured with his wife Wanda and daughters Rebecca Jane and Joan Elizabeth, is now stationed at Camp Hood after entering service in December. Gordon Davis, now president of the Stamford Exchange Club, aims to continue the work begun as membership committee chairman and lift the club to its highest level yet. The club lists 56 active members and 16 men in service, with 1a new members joined in the last six months.
