Mrs. Lee Cauthen hosted a G A Girls party with games and refreshments at her home on Saturday afternoon or evening. Several Lueders residents attended including Miss Johnnie Cauthen and Miss Eulah Barnes. Bernice Gentry and Mr Robert Harden wed in Abilene, while Miss Laverne Burgeson and Mr Aulton Parks married in DeLeon. In Stamford Texas on February 10 all Jones county schools with boys teams must meet at 7:00 pm at Stamford High School Gym for the county championship tournament. Girls teams are not allowed under current Interscholastic League rules.

Bishop Moore to preach at St John’s Sunday night

Mrs Bertha Bechner dies in Clayton New Mexico
Mrs Bertha Bechner also known as Miss Bertha Shirmer and Stamford native died in Clayton New Mexico on January 23. She is survived by her husband Luther Bechner a son a daughter her father August Shirmer of Kansas City her mother Mrs Emma Shirmer of Stamford a sister Myrtie Morrison of San Angelo two brothers George Shirmer of Kansas City and Luther Shirmer of Fayetteville Arkansas She was born December 27 1890 in Missouri moved to Texas then Stamford at age eight and married at eighteen. She joined the Baptist church at age fifteen and remained a member until death.

Rotary Club Opposes Reducing Trains on Wichita Valley Line
At a Tuesday noon meeting the Stamford Rotary Club voted against curtailing passenger service on the Wichita Valley Railway. The Abilene to Wichita Falls route may drop two trains to leave one daily each way. The program featured talks on buying and selling and ethics in advertising, plus a paper on installment plans.

Stamford Library Reports 1000 Patrons and 4419 Volumes
Miss Blanche Baldwin presented the Carnegie Library board’s annual report at the East Oliver hotel. For 1927 the library held 4419 volumes, issued 14,497 books, rebounded 960, and city purchases reached 213. Gifts totaled 332.79 from various clubs and patrons. The report highlights new children’s story hour, 126 new readers, and ongoing patron cooperation.

Burglary at Midway Filling Station Highlights Local Break-in
The Midway Filling Station eight miles north of Stamford on the Has kell Highway owned by Bob Jared was broken into last Friday night. About $100 worth of groceries and automobile accessories were stolen. Haskell County officers investigated with no arrests reported to date.
