The Jones County Appraisal District mails February applications for partial tax exemptions on residential homesteads for residents age 65 plus or disabled adults and for open space land productivity value. May 1 is the deadline to file. a 1982 partial exemption for farming and ranching implements is new. Rendition forms are at the Anson office, while appraisers work countywide on residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and personal properties. DPS office closes for holidays in Stamford Anson and Hamlin
The Department of Public Safety driver’s license office in Stamford will be closed Tuesday and observe New Year’s holidays with Monday closure in Anson and Wednesday closure in Hamlin. Offices reopen on their usual schedule starting January 4.

City rebate checks lift Stamford ahead in 1981 totals
A December tax rebate of 8372.64 puts Stamford’s 1981 rebates at 143513.14, 2.56 percent above 1980’s 139924.35. Haskell posts 8401.11 in December to reach 137066.01, 9.66 percent ahead of last year, while Hamlin climbs 101250.89, 14.70 percent above 1980. Merchants collect the optional 1 percent city sales tax with the state four percent tax and the Comptroller rebates it monthly to cities where levied.
