United Fund Drive Reaches Its $12500 Goal
The Stamford United Fund Drive began Oct. 4 and has reached its $12,500 goal with pledges still arriving from farmers. Jim West reports funds are allocated to agencies including American Red Cross $750, Boy Scouts $2,000, Camp Fire Girls $1,800, Salvation Army $900, Youth Program $2,150, West Texas Rehabilitation Center $950, United Charities $1,000, Cerebral Palsy $200, Camp Sweeney $350. Don Revell and John Harvell chaired the drive. division chairs included Brownfield, Gonzales, Horn, High, Olson, and Overby.

More than 50 Stamford families will receive help this Christmas through the Goodwill drive. Farmer W A Roberts dies at 60 in Stamford area
William A. Roberts 60, farmer from Bunker Hill northeast of Stamford, died Wednesday morning at Stamford Memorial Hospital after a weeklong illness. Funeral services pending at Kinney Funeral Home. He was born May 20 1905 in Coveman County and moved to Haskell County in 1919. He married Lillie Turner August 22 1928 in Haskell and was a member of Plainview Baptist Church. Two Stamford Men Headed For State Pen
Two Stamford men Kenneth Chase and Pete Guerrero who escaped the Jones County jail on December 6 faced hearings in 104th District Court. Chase had probation revoked for a prior burglary and forged instrument charge while Guerrero pleaded guilty to breaking and entering linked to local break ins. Guerrero received a three year penitentiary sentence.
