Stamford High Teen Dies After Gym Class Collapse
Gerald W. Goree 17, a Stamford High School junior, collapsed during a tag game in gym. He died about 1 40 p m, likely from a heart attack, despite CPR and oxygen. Funeral at Stamford Church of Christ Thursday at 2 30 p m. Burial in Highland Cemetery. He was born May 3 1936 and lived in Stamford most of his life. He worked at Safeway and is survived by his parents, a brother, and grandparents.

McCann Named Acting Judge in Corporation Court
A. J. McCann, city fireman, was named acting corporation court judge at a city council meeting Friday while Rev Sam Young recovers from a heart attack. The council also approved 25 percent city employee Christmas bonuses for one month’s pay and 10 percent for staff with less than six months’ service. An ordinance to reinstate council service pay was drafted, with salaries up to 10 dollars monthly for councilmen and 50 dollars for the mayor, suspended in 1951. Mrs. C. N. x-Stamford Man Dies In Brownwood
William Lee Box of Brownwood age 77 died Friday in a Brownwood hospital after living in Stamford for years. Funeral was held Saturday at Brownwood with burial Mt Hope cemetery Anson. He served as a pioneer mail carrier between Anson and Haskell and worked for Fort Worth and Denver Railway at Stamford retiring in 1935. He later farmed near Brownwood and was a deacon at the First Baptist Church. Survivors include wife two sons Rev J A Box Iraan one Addian Box San Diego two daughters Willie Lee Box Brownwood Mrs Bennett Wichita Falls four grandchildren one great grandchild and two sisters.
