Santa Opens Stamford Christmastime Season Parade
Santa arrived in downtown Stamford aboard a tractor for the 1960 Christmas season kickoff. The event featured a civic parade with dealer floats, the Yale season, and participation from Police and five clubs including Prep Teen, Camp Fire, Blue Birds, Horizon Club and the Texas National Guard. Prizes awarded for best floats went to Huston Hardware and Horizon Club, with Blue Birds and Camp Fire also earning honors. Saint Nick will operate a Saturday Santa House near the post office lawn each weekend until Christmas, while downtown stores extend hours. Participants included Trail Chevrolet, Hammer Pontiac Buick, Westfall Motors, and the Stamford Chamber of Commerce.

Two Stamford men were jailed in San Angelo after an early Sunday morning escape led to a series of thefts. They stole a 1961 Ford belonging to Charles Langford, wrecked it near El Dorado, and later took a car in El Dorado, removing two shotguns from the original vehicle before being arrested and brought back to San Angelo.

Police Find Leads In Two Local Robberies Last Week
Police report hot leads after a break in at Son's City Pig and a separate robbery at a high school the same night. A cafe robbery Wednesday morning netted about 40 to 50 dollars from a juke box and wall boxes plus 15 dollars in cigarettes two cigar boxes and 50 cents in pennies. At the high school no forced entry. about 5 dollars in coins were taken from the principal's office and a Telechron travel clock belonging to Mel. Jack Griffin, secretary to the school superintendent, was taken from her offices. Chief B Q Cooper said the two cases are not related.
