Christmas trees to aid Mexican and Negro children

Red Cross drive totals 610.84 dollars with gifts from Stamford businessmen led by Rayford Hills. Contributions from individuals, schools, and wards are listed, and Christmas trees and baskets are planned for Mexican and Negro children. Two benefit shows at Palace Theatre December 10 and 17 will fund aid with admission by food or clothing donations.

District Harvest Day Planned by Methodist Women

Plans are underway for a district Harvest Day at St John s Methodist church in Stamford next Thursday December 10 announced by district secretary Mrs J B Dodson A strong delegation from the district is expected and several conference officers will participate The event centers on compiling the year s work and presenting full reports inviting women from local and other churches to attend.

Miles buys Cook garage and wrecking shop on Anson Stamford highway

B D Miles, longtime operator of a filling station and wrecking shop on the Anson Stamford highway, purchases the John Cook garage filling station and wrecking shop near Stamford and will close the former station. The report notes local reaction and mentions an unidentified informant.

Youth dies after kerosene explosion near Anson

R A Burton Jr 18 died at Stamford Sanitarium after oil can explosion started a kitchen fire at the family home ten miles southwest of Anson on Thanksgiving Eve. Brother Eual 16 was burned on the leg. mother burned in trying to help. Neighbors Robert Stuart and Doris Burton were uninjured. Both boys had graduated from Anson High School last spring.

Kenshale Dies at 56 in Albany Home

Ben A Kenshale, 56, father of Mrs D L Ashley of Stamford, died at his Albany home after a heart attack. Funeral held Monday at 3 pm with Rev W M Nix presiding. Survived by widow six daughters and several relatives. Kenshale long noted as a pioneer grain thresherman and early gasoline tractor owner.

Football Boys And Walker Guests At Rotary Luncheon

Nazarene Church Announces Winter Revival Schedule

The Church of the Nazarene on North Swenson street announces a winter revival from Wednesday night December 9 to December 20. Everyone is invited to meet the new pastor and hear him preach. Stamford Town Closes For Friday Football Game

Stamford business houses will close at 2 p m for the Stamford Burkburnett football game Friday afternoon after a chamber survey. Mrs Inez Bowdry secretary of the Chamber of Commerce announced the plan after canvassing stores and offices. Most stores will reopen after the game but many establishments will stay closed until Saturday morning.

Changes of residence on South Anson street follow recent home sales. J. F. Hogan moved to Cisco after selling his house. Tom Wiley purchased 302 South Anson and moved in. Adolph Johnson’s rock veneer home at 103 South Anson is now occupied by Bob Corley. W. H. Plant and wife redecorate and plan yard rock veneer at 215 South Anson after purchasing the home.

C J Sweeney district administrator of the Texas Relief commission at Abilene says a new enrollment of boys for CCC Camps will occur in January. A. P. Store Closes Stamford Location After Seven Years

The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company store in Stamford closed Saturday night and its stock was redistributed to other A. P. stores in the area. Manager J Ettheton left Monday with no assignment yet. The Larche building outlet had operated since April 1929 and officials gave no reason beyond presumed unprofitability.

Two Stamford Women Escape Serious Injury in Crash

Miss Clarice Buie and Mrs. Sal lie T. Pate escaped injury when two cars collided six miles from Roby on Sunday evening. The Buie car and a car driven by African American occupants sideswiped as the negro driver veered toward McCaulley. Minor injuries were reported for the other occupants. The women were returning to Stamford after taking Miss Pauline Buie to Roby after Thanksgiving.
