Fire Prevention Contest Winners Announced Here

Stamford Public schools announced winners from the Fire Prevention program contests during National Fire Prevention Week. Fire Marshall Dick Rowland praised the event as one of the best in years. Kay Maples won first in Creative Drawings, with Jimmie Benson second and Neva McClelland third. Alice Early topped the Fire Prevention Poster contest, followed by Donna Black and Sylvia Roster. Dickey Bouchett led the Home Inspection Blanks, with Rouhlac Bunkley and Fred Dotson in second and third. Mary Jo Bounds won the Senior High fire prevention theme writing contest, with Charles Gary as runner-up. The events were organized by Rowland and sponsored by Moreland Mutual Insurance Agency.

Baptist Homes Receive 601 Dollar Offering In Texas

A total of 601.46 was raised in a special offering for Texas Baptist orphanages to be shared among the three homes. Donors could designate amounts for each home. Family Day filled the church with large attendance as Rev. Byron Bryadt prepared sermons on My Pledge and Reaction to Righteousness. The morning scripture was Psalms 37:5 and the evening Luke 8:26, with a KDWT radio broadcast at 8:45 a.m.

Mr and Mrs E H Ivey of Dallas spent Thanksgiving in Lubbock and traveled via Stamford visiting Mr and Mrs Edgar Ellis Tuesday night before returning to Dallas Wednesday afternoon.

Stamford Booster Club elected new officers and shifted its meeting venue to the Stamford Athletic Club within Stamford High School auditorium. John Dyer will be president with Ben Loop as vice president and Reginald Baird as secretary treasurer, replacing retiring officers Roland Kelley Sam Baire and Dyer. The club will not meet during the cage season until the next gathering Monday at 7 30 pm December 11 in Nat s Cafe banquet room. Special Meetings For Methodist Men In Stamford District

J F McCulloch announces a week of special evening meetings for Methodist men in the Stamford district. Spur Monday features Gordon Bennett of McMurry college. St John Stamford Tuesday hosts men from multiple towns with Delbert Downing speaker and quartet performance. St Johns Church Plans Sunday Study of Luke Gospel

St. Johns church will begin a study of the book of Luke during Sunday evening services starting December 3 at 7 PM. Attendees will receive a magazine style copy of Luke and the pastor Rev. Charles E. Flournoy Becomes Inspector After Long Stamford Police Service

George G. Flournoy, Stamford police chief for over 50 years, resigns to assume the new title inspector of police. The city council accepted his resignation with regret and lauded his service. He recalls his crime-fighting career, including aid during a meningitis outbreak and a famed encounter with the Santa Claus bandit. Flournoy helped organize the Texas Police Association and remains active in law enforcement, with future duties in Ranger during the oil boom and a long record as a peace officer.
