The Stamford Electric Cooperative in Stamford received a commendation letter from REA Administrator Harry Slattery for making July loan prepayments totaling 624 306. REA reports 110 systems in 26 states paid ahead in July, adding to 5 404 428 in prior months. The Stamford cooperative has a REA loan of 256 516 funding 421 miles of lines serving 802 rural residents in Haskell Shackelford Jones and Stonewall counties.

The Swenson Avenue Baptist church held a watermelon feast Monday night with about seventy five attendees. First Aid Course Begins Monday Evening at City Hall
A 20 hour first aid course for men and women starts Monday evening in the city council room at city hall. A rescue squad course under Civilian Defense begins Monday night in the fire department with Joe Dick Giddens teaching. The Rotary Club will host its annual farmer barbecue at the Will Rogers Bunkhouse on the Cowboy Reunion grounds Tuesday at 8 p.m. The rural urban committee led by R B Buie will organize speeches by farmers on wartime farm programs. The event was moved forward one week from September 1.

First Bale Cotton For Jones County At Anson
Jones County shipped its first 1942 cotton bale ginned at Anson by White gin owned by Bale Jayton Cotton Oil Co. Grown by W. N. Lindsey near Anson, the seed cotton weighed 1940 pounds yielding 560 pounds lint. Lindsey earned 154.70 dollars. gin paid 108 dollars for lint and 18.90 dollars for seed, with 18.90 dollars premium from the Anson Chamber of Commerce credited to the farmer.

Mrs Joe Barnes Dies At Home In Stamford
Mrs. Joe Barnes aged 24 died Monday at 7 30 a m in her Stamford home after an 11 month brain tumor battle. Burial followed at Quannah with service at Mrs J J Leonard home conducted by a Methodist pastor. She was born January 20 1918 in Altus Oklahoma and married Joe Barnes August 29 1940 in Stamford. She is survived by her husband a daughter Retha Ladelle her mother Mrs Leonard of Quannah her father E E Brasher of Rochester and a sister Virginia Merle Brasher of Quannah. Barnes worked at Stamford Flying School.

Mrs. E. B. Corley Dies After Prolonged Illness
Mrs. E B Corley died Wednesday at 4 30 PM at the family home after a lingering illness dating from October. Funeral Friday at 4 PM at Central Christian Church conducted by Judge C E Coombes with burial in Highland Cemetery. She was born July 13, 1896 at Ft Griffin and later moved to Stamford where she married Mr. Corley in 1924. Four instructors from Stamford Flying School left this week for Kelly Field in San Antonio. They will receive commissions as first lieutenants and teach 50 CPT graduates to become instructors for primary flying schools. Fast Fighter Planes Over Stamford Hidden Pilot Revealed
Two pursuit planes buzzed Stamford's business district at over 300 mph on a transitional flight from Louisiana. Stamford native First Lt. James Warren McAllister piloted one aircraft and landed at Stamford Arledge field. The other crew member initially thought McAllister was lost and phoned Abilene seeking his whereabouts.
