Summer Band Concerts Close Next Week

The Firemen's Band will finish its summer outdoor concert series with a Harmoni Park show on Thursday night. Last week's concert featured baritone Virg Rowland singing On The Road to Mandalay, with fan favorites Gloworm Sunny South and Should 17 Lamb. Mayfield and Lamb of Haslin wed in Cisco, witnessed by W Lamb and family, with ties to Stamford. Lamb, injured in a previous auto crash, plans to return to West Texas Utilities. Pierre Grainer of Paris set a record by balancing a 523 pound barrel on his head.

Lowering of School Age to Six Strikes Education Dilemma

Stamford public schools set a September opening with a historic shift to educate six year olds free. The board limits admissions for five year olds under strict rules, while keeping tuition for non younger entrants at four dollars monthly. Baptists Win City Championship in Indoor Baseball

Penick-Hughes Named FE Dynamite Distributor in West Texas

Penick Hughes Company wholesale department becomes distributor for DuPont dynamite and blasting accessories in Central West Texas. A fireproof magazine is under construction three miles northwest of Stamford with capacity for two and a half carloads. The lumber yard division supplies materials and oversees erection. Other regional stops include Dallas Wichita Falls San Angelo and Midland.

Glee Club Guests to Be Entertained at Local Homes

Members of the Girl's Glee Club and Orchestra of the Odd Fellows Home Corsicana will be entertained in local Odd Fellows and Rebekah homes during a visit. The concert is set for Monday evening at City Auditorium 8 p.m. Admission is free. Mrs Beulah Gould visited in Monday Sunday.

Rain totals inch up in Stamford area

Stamford reported half an inch of rain on Sunday bringing the month’s total to about one and a half inches. Rain Monday was light in the area but heavier showers were registered at several points downtown and in surrounding communities.

Sherman First to Bring Cotton To Stamford This Year

S H Sherman becomes the first to bring cotton into Stamford for the season. The bale arrived Thursday morning near the Welle area, transported from the belt line by Sherman’s route on the highways. The bale weighed about 500 pounds and was stored at the VUesander Gin as the owner awaited sale through the Texas Cotton Cooperative.
