A reporter recalls an elaborate East Indian Hindu wedding lasting days with nursemaid ceremonies and a multi‑float procession. The account describes arranged marriages, the burden on families, and the festive yet noisy rites as the bridegroom’s party visits the bride’s home.
The Sunshine Special with 500 plus Aldren heading No. 999 left Stamford at 1 35 p m for a Clear Fork outing. 58 cars carried about 468 youngsters, totaling over 522 children plus 20 plus boy scouts and 58 drivers, with about 600 people expected on the grounds at Lueders.

The Stamford Texas National Guard unit Company K 142nd Infantry reached CAMP HULEN Palacios Tex on Saturday at 6 PM in good order. Food in camp praised as excellent with no casualties reported and mosquitoes less troublesome than last year. Promotions approved by Colonel Nimons include Arch Astin to sergeant Morrelle A Davis to corporal Albert B Davis to corporal Conrad Knowles to corporal Robert V Hoot to private first class Bruce Walton to private first class J C Coleman to private first class Jack Duncan to SP5 Robert L Lloyd to SP6 and James M Knowles Jr to SP6C.
Mrs. E. G. Martin Mrs. J. M. Martin and Mildred Martin age 4 were injured when their car left Highway 30 southwest of Stamford and rolled three times. They were treated at the sanitarium then home. Mil dred required twelve stitches and Mrs. J. M. Martin was unconscious for hours. The collision occurred as Mrs. Martin tried to pass Mrs. French on the highway.
C B Gray, longtime cashier at Stamford State Bank, resigns to join his brothers Ed and Fred Gray in Gray Brothers market and grocery. The grocery department expands this week by removing an old vault and moving partitions. Guy Pittman joins the bank staff, coming from First National Bank, after Gray’s departure.
The 1932 game regulations, called to The American by O W Lamb, set a two month duck season from November 1 to December 31 in this Texas area. Dove bag limit drops from 25 to 18. dove season runs September 1 to October 31. Quail dates remain October 16 to January 15.
The Business Men's Bible Class of the First Baptist and the Brotherhood Class of St. John's Methodist will hold a joint watermelon feast at Harmon Park Friday evening starting around 7. The event was moved from Lueders Park to Stamford to boost attendance, with 125 watermelons contracted. Members and their ladies are invited.
Buck Mathis, 19, of near Old Glory was taken to the hospital with a broken left leg after a mule kicked him as he dismounted in a rodeo at the Dobe Robinson ranch eight miles northeast of Aspermont.

Nichols Grocery and Market operated by Clarence Nichols was gutted by a Friday night fire discovered about 3 30 a m The stock and mixtures are practically a total loss estimated 2500 to 3000 The building owned by W F Culbreath damaged possibly 1000 The Knights of Pythias lodge on the second floor escaped damage The fire origin undetermined Nichols hoped to reopen after repairs and fixtures are installed
Mr and Mrs S R Osment were feted at a surprise party for their fiftieth wedding anniversary hosted at Henry Osment’s home. The couple, married August 3 1882 in Cleveland Tennessee, moved to Stamford in 1906 and have since resided there. Guests included Walter Earl Henry and others with the Osment family and Appling relatives attending.
A light Tuesday morning shower in the Stamford area brought welcomed moisture to cotton and crops. Local measurements show .43 inch recorded here, with heavier rainfall reported in parts of the trade area.
M A Kilpatrick, former Stamford resident, suffered a broken leg a fractured hip and multiple cuts after being hit by a car while walking from his cafe to home in Palestine Sunday night about 9. His condition is not serious. He is father of H A Kirick who works for Westey Candy Company locally.

The Camp Fire Girls of the Nakwaka group completed their third annual session at Christoval on the Concho River. Highlights included swimming and boating, a ranch visit with horseback riding, and goat barbecue. Several members earned ranks in nature craft, camp craft, and swimming tests with some to take Junior and Senior Life Saving tests later.
