Funeral service for Uzell Dee Thompson aged 71 was held at the First Baptist Church in Stamford with Rev. Miles B. Hays officiating. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. The city plans to end its summer recreational water program with a water carnival. The program saw progress among both beginners and swimmers with about 150 enrolled and around 100 attending on average. W. J. W. Foster, 83, retired building contractor of Corsicana, died at home Monday morning. He was the father of Mrs. Grady Bowdry of Stamford. Sam Moore aged 71 of Avoca died at Stamford Sanitarium Monday at 3 50 p m after months of illness. Funeral held Wednesday at Avoca Baptist Church. Burial Spring Creek cemetery Avoca Kinney Funeral in charge. Survived by wife Martha Reno Moore four sons four daughters twenty two grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was born May 1 1876 in Alabama and married Martha Reno in 1896. He was a farmer and active Baptist member. Family moved to Jones County in 1931 from Collin County.

Maize Harvest Yields Reported High in Lueders Avoca Areas
Farmers in the Lueders and Avoca regions report maize yields from 1,000 to 1,900 pounds per acre with profits of 25 to 40 dollars an acre. Prices run about 2.65 per 100 pounds of maize. Rain is needed soon to protect the later crop. Stamford has shipped 50 carloads, and cotton prospects remain steady though uncertain. Pastures show moisture stress and rain is desired.
