Dog show draws 100 exhibitors to Stamford country club

More than 100 exhibitors attended weekend dog shows by the Texas Toy Fox Terrier and Texas Toy Terrier Associations at Stamford Country Club. Exhibitors traveled from California to Texas as top winners included Best male Jones' Skipper and Best of show Parsons Sheri with notable entries from Fort Worth Ferguson and Castro Valley.

Men Face Contempt Charges For Not Supporting Children

Three men cited in 104th District Court 22 face contempt of court hearings for failing to pay child support. Judge Owen Thomas noted amounts owed to be paid to the mother, with Texas law offering no alimony and no court-ordered enforcement by the clerk beyond receipt. Mothers lacking funds can appeal to the county attorney, and contempt is pursued if warnings fail.

Jones County Oil and Gas Valuation Slated to Drop

Jones County expects a sharp decline in oil and gas valuations over the past decade with a 1964 combined value for utilities and oil and gas property near 9.6 million dollars down from 14.41 million in 1954. County officials say utilities may rise while oil and gas values fall and tax roll figures will reflect lower valuations. A county survey will guide the 1964 tax roll, and the tax valuation percentage could drop from 20 percent to as low as 2 to 15 percent.

Open House to Display New School Cooling Units

Oliver Elementary School hosts an open house Friday 6:30 to 7:30 p m to showcase 17 window air conditioning units installed at the school as a PTA fund raiser. Attendees may tour classrooms and buy salads and beverages to help pay the 1000 balance remaining on the project.

The Saturday and Sunday event hosts District 8 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Stamford Memorial with Billie L. Dorris of Austin as principal speaker and Ray Ashworth of Snyder presiding. Mrs. Mac Wilson leads the Ladies Auxiliary sessions while registration starts at noon Saturday and a dance caps the night.

First National Bank reported deposits of 1,857,691.76 as of April 15, up from 5,815,355.80 on March 18, 1963. Farmers State Bank of Lueders posted 490,077.82 in deposits and assets rising to 1,017,289.05.

Pancake Supper Aims to Raise Funds for Stamford Hospital

Baseball forms distributed to players at school

Application forms for young sters wishing to join the summer baseball program have been sent through schools. Deadline for return to the Chamber of Commerce is May 15 with forms and insurance due. Players missing submissions by then cannot participate. the baseball fund will cover insurance for those unable to pay, and Chamber Manager Lee Walker notes 80 percent of needed adult workers are secured with efforts to find more.

Stamford church tops Texas Disciples in world outreach giving

Central Christian Church of Stamford ranked first in Texas among Disciples of Christ churches for per capita world outreach contributions. Rev. David Freeman announced that 4.8 percent of last year's funds supported missions outside Stamford. The church also placed 42nd nationwide in per capita giving to others.

Jaycee Awards Set for Stamford Thursday Night

Stamford Junior Chamber of Commerce will install new officers and honor outstanding members at a 7 30 p m banquet at Stamford Country Club. State Jaycee Director Billy Jack Ray of Haskell will deliver the principal address and install officers. Awards include outstanding project chairman outstanding new Jaycee and the key man.
