Swan, Early County Citizen, Dies at 88 in Clovis
J L Swan age 88 formerly of Jones County died April 22 at daughter’s home in Clovis New Mexico where he had lived six years. Funeral held in Clovis with daughters Mrs Olinger Mrs Lauderdale and others attending. Swan Chapel was named for him. He was born December 29 1848 in Tennessee and survived by nine children 27 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He married Artelia Daniels in 1868 and after her death remarried. second wife died six years ago. He moved from Jones County to Wheeler Texas in 1918 after living here 30 years.

City Music Week observed with choir festival and open-air concert
Numerous city organizations cooperate for National Music Week in Stamford led by the Music Club. A Friday night choir festival at the high school opens events with choirs from St John's Methodist Central Christian Church Church of Christ First Baptist Central Presbyterian and more performing with violin duets and quartets. Special church music follows Sunday programs and Monday Wednesday activities with high school chorus graced by local teachers.
