Graduation exercises for the Adult Basic and Continuing Education program are tonight at 7 30 in the Youth Building of St John’s Methodist Church. Supt Woodie Beene and Rev Jerrell Sharp will address the students while teachers Bobby Lusk and Alice Appling present certificates. About 45 students enrolled with an average attendance of 32. Level I led in attendance and some students aim to pass the citizenship exam. Level III eight GED candidates will receive GED diplomas from TEA.

College Lake to receive sewer plant effluent via pipeline
Stamford officials move to amend the city permit so treated sewage from a proposed new plant could be pumped to College Lake at the Stamford Country Club to keep the lake level steady. The council, after Mayor James G. Self’s recommendation, authorized the city manager and attorney to pursue the amendment. No cost estimate was provided for the pipeline and pumping system.

Ratliff Resigns Senate over payroll disclosures
Sen David Ratliff of Stamford resigns from the Texas Senate effective immediately after disclosing involvement with relatives on his payroll and plans to withdraw as a House candidate. Governor and officials were informed. a special election will fill the Senate seat. Bill Tippen announces bid to succeed Ratliff. Ratliff becomes eligible for a $504 monthly Senate retirement.

Australian Rotarians Leave Stamford for Fort Worth
A six member group of Australian Rotarians on a study project departed Stamford this morning for Fort Worth after a welcome week in the area. The visitors included Tony Claude Jones Charles Edward Bradbury Peter John Sparkes Warren John Pereira Simon Terry and Albert Williams. They traveled via Wichita Falls Abilene and Stamford Rotary events before a wind disrupted a planned flight and the group moved to Hamlin for a noon luncheon.

PCA Elects New Slate at Stamford Meeting
At the Rolling Plains Credit Association annual stockholders meeting in Stamford, Lasater Hensley and Dean Decker were elected chairman and vice chairman respectively. Decker and Mack T. Claburn Anson were re elected as directors for a 3 year term. Other board members include Wee Mann and J. P. Perrin. Officers re elected: J L Hill Jr president, J R Gleaton and R C Cobb vice presidents, Bill L. Glenn secretary, Joe A Hanson treasurer. About 675 people attended the 35th annual meeting at Stamford High School. Cash prizes were awarded to multiple recipients from various offices. The Central Office is in Stamford with additional offices in Spur, Matador, Munday and Childress.

Stamford Little League launches the season Monday with a 6:00 p.m. Cubs vs Jets curtain raiser and a 7:30 p.m. Pirates versus Rangers minor league doubleheader. The major league season starts Tuesday May 2 with Dodgers facing Red Sox and Braves meeting Cardinals.
