Moser to Speak on Cotton Marketing in Stamford

C. O. Moser vice president of the American Cotton Co operative Association will address Stamford on Trades Day Wednesday April 23 at 2 00 pm. He will outline the co operative plan its formation and operation plus branch offices for handling cotton with grading and closing service for members and non members. The talk will be at the Stamford City Auditorium following the Trades Day program.

Mrs. Mattie L. Clark Dies Pioneer of This Section

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie L. Clark, wife of Joe Clark, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the family home 410 East Campbell Street. Burial followed in Anson Cemetery. Born in Hood County in 1860, she was a longtime Stamford area settler and church worker who died after a 24 hour illness from acute indigestion. Survivors include husband, sons R. T. Clark and F. J. Clark of Stamford, daughter Mrs. B. Jones of Stamford, two brothers, four sisters, and numerous relatives from Anson, Plainview, Nugent, and Mineral Wells. Active pallbearers were Bertins, Reseroe Hood, L. L. Leo Rutherford, R. B. Buie, and D. Funeral arrangements were with Kinney Brothers.

The Caldwell unit re elected officers and set the next meeting date. Delegates from Abilene and surrounding associations met at a Baptist church for a two day conference with addresses by Dr. J. D. Sandefer and other leaders. Attendance reached 291 registered, marking a larger turnout than opening day.

Senior League Easter Service at St John’s Methodist

The Senior Epworth League holds an Easter watch service Sunday at eight oclock at St John s Methodist Church. All are welcome, with special invite to local youth. Census count urged Stamford residents to be counted

The Bureau of Commerce warns residents that those not yet counted in the state census will render Stamford undercounted. It urges every person and family seen to contact the office at telephone number 44 to ensure accurate totals and avoid a poor representation in the next city record.

Brief Chronicle of the Daily American in Stamford

The Daily American in Stamford began January 8 1921 led by Kilgore from Columbus New Mexico with a tiny two page antique press. It aimed to be a daily paper but failed due to limited patronage and labor-saving equipment, with Dodson and Kilgore as early editors and managers and Harry Stovall as ad manager who died in a plane crash.

Bunkley Named Stamford Rotary Club President for July

Dr. E P Bunkley was elected president of the Stamford Rotary Club in the annual officers vote held Tuesday noon. He will assume office at the first July meeting, succeeding Dr. A Blackwell. Also chosen were R A Bible as vice president and A L Boster as secretary. Directors named include Ra or, John Wallace and R H Dobyns. Blackwell becomes a board member as retiring president, and the secretary serves as ex officio director.

Royal neighbors West Texas meet in Stamford

Royal Neighbors of America district to hold convention in Stamford on Friday April 25 with about 150 delegates expected. Sessions start 10:00 a.m. at Litres Hall, banquet at Central Christian Church in the evening, program includes America song and address by Rev. Fred S. Rogers. Adjournment planned 3 p.m. with officer elections and Initiation at 6:30 p.m.

Stamford & Western Gas Co Reported Sold to Lone Star Gas

Announcement expected Friday indicates negotiations for the Stamford & Western Gas Company including properties in about 20 Central West Texas towns have been completed. Officials declined comment while C. O. Moore of Stamford and associates heads the firm with a pipeline reaching Stamford from near Chillicothe. Gas service in Stamford began June 21, 1928.

Odd Fellows to Initiate Class of Fifteen Monday Night

Stamford Odd Fellows lodge plans a big initiation at the Odd Fellows Hall next Monday with about fifteen candidates. Visitors from Haskell Rule Albany Anson Rotan Hamlin and Weinert will attend, with degree teams from Rule and Haskell aiding. The Stamford lodge, notable in West Texas, owns a 50 by 100 foot hall and 150 members.

The Stamford American faced early tribulations after its April 1924 launch by R C Thomas. The second week reduced to four pages as the editor joked about a temperamental printing press and delayed distribution while vowing timely deliveries and a larger future paper.

New Auditorium At Lueders To Be Opened Saturday

The new school auditorium at Lueders will open to the public this Saturday night April 19 with the operetta The Gypsy Lover under the A T A. Admission 10 and 20 cents to cover expenses. Local talent led by Mrs Oscar Seth and Mrs Guy Douthit performs with Miss Ruth Anderson and others. Stage furnishings donated by the Senior High School class and scenery funded by an advertising curtain from sponsors in Lueders and Stamford.

Russell Rites Near Highland Cemetery

Jones County Hearing Seeks Farm Agent to Aid Crop Production

Citizens from Ereckedale, Hamby, Stamford and surrounding areas urged the Jones County commissioners to employ a county farm agent. Proponents cited terracing, improved yields, and practical demonstrations in canned foods, while opponents urged caution. The court recessed to decide at a future session.
