Red Cross Offers Aid for Stamford Wind and Hail Damage

Red Cross aid for Stamford area damages may total up to 1 million dollars. Giles Boone of Abilene cites need based disbursement with applications at the Red Cross office. Ray Carlile notes aid covers repairs and essential needs but is not disaster insurance. Henrietta Brooksmith handles registrations through April 12 at the Chamber of Commerce suite.

Tuesday Storm Leaves Stamford With Broad Damage

Stamford faced heavy wind and hail from a dawn Tuesday storm. Officials reported about one million dollars in property damage with no fatalities and only a cut finger as the major injury.

Tidwell Repeats as Police Chief in Close Election

Jack Tidwell won the police chief post by 51 votes in Tuesday's election with 284 to 233 for Bob Miller and 43 for Johnny W Griggs. The contested race was the only one this year, while Mi vyvor G. C. Carothers and council members John Reese and Ryland Cleaton were unopposed. About 652 votes were cast, with turnout dampened by a morning storm and lower afternoon participation.

Storm Sidelights and Damage From Tuesday Storm

Giles Boone of the Red Cross reported storm news from Throckmorton and Stamford as hail battered areas. J B Tabor’s carport blew away and damaged churches while Avoca resident C W May, 78, was hospitalized for shock after his house was struck by hail and debris.

Sunrise Easter Pageant Depicts Resurrection at Harnon Park

The fifth annual sunrise Easter pageant will be held Easter morning at Har non Park at 430 with a 415 organ prelude. Mrs H G Andrews Jr scripts and narrates with a citywide sponsor Woman's Forum and many church groups assisting.

Club's Egg Hunt Set For Friday

The Stamford Exchange club announces its annual Easter egg hunt to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Harmon Park and Washington school. Pre school through fourth grade children will participate in five Harmon Park groups with Exchange members hosting and guiding activities.

The Jones County Tuberculosis Association holds its annual meeting at Nat's Cafe in Stamford on Tuesday April 12 at 7 30 p m. Officers and directors are invited to attend and a self paid dinner will follow. New officers will be elected, with nominees mainly from Stamford.

Avoca Parent-Teachers Association sponsors a benefit show for the Harley Sadler Memorial Scout Hall at Avoca High School gym Friday April 8 at 7 30 p m. Chamber of Commerce Banquet Set for Friday Night

The annual Chamber of Commerce banquet will be held Friday night May 20 at 7 p.m. Lee Walker announces. Rev Henneth T Teegarden of Central Christian Church Vernon will be speaker. Banquet at the Bunkhouse and Roundup Hall on the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds follows recent years’ observances after a Tuesday directors meeting.
