A topical sketch shows houses in Kogarah being converted into business premises. The text notes modernized shops of 24 by 12 feet with high ceilings, extensive structural changes including rubble foundations replaced, walls pinned, and rebuilt in brick and cement, with further rejuvenation underway on adjacent houses, reflecting ongoing redevelopment.
After purchase by Mr Hayiss the project enlisted H C Wynter a noted builder from Ocean street Penshurst to convert four room tenements into first class shop fronts. The fronts were pulled down and rebuilt with work continuing across the state. The Kogarah branch of the Commercial Banking Co of Sydney occupies two shops under R F Blaxland, and Alf West runs a tobacconist shop in another.
