It argues local dealers offer better value with stronger construction, proper workmanship, and reliable service including freight and mounting support.
Mary Mac Lain era insult aside, three prominent Butte women were refused admittance to United States Senator W A Clark's residence by his wife. The snub sparked a social rift as longtime society leaders protested while former acquaintances were welcomed. The rift grew as others attempted visits, many noting Mrs Clark favored old friends from her poor youth.
John Wheatly, a well known carpenter near Valley Hill, was seriously injured last Saturday when a derrick used to raise a heavy timber slipped. The timber fell and crushed his leg above the ankle. a physician treated him and he was made comfortable. The injury is painful but not deemed serious.
The Fiscal court ordered a concrete walk and curb on Main Cross street from the courthouse yard to the law office of Hon. John W. Lewis. A resolution granted Cumberland Telephone Company right of way on county roads tied to city franchise. Court bought a road grader for 3200 and the company sent a representative to demonstrate it. exchanges planned at Mooresville Mackville and Willisburg.

Miss Graham VanArndale, a beloved visitor, has passed away. A Canadian woman reports relief from dyspepsia after using Chamberlain’s Stomach and Liver Tablets purchased from C. Haydon.
Brigadier General Frank D. Baldwin, a Michigan native and Civil and Spanish War veteran, is reported to be the only officer with two Medals of Honor awarded by act of Congress. He earned one for bravery at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia, July 20, 184, as captain of the Nineteenth Michigan infantry, and another for gallantry against hostiles near McLellan's Creek, Texas, in November 1874 as first lieutenant of the Fifth Infantry.
Mr L E Perkins and daughter Ova visited at S H Gardner’s and attended a Cunningham party. Ada Simms will visit Battle with M A Perkins for two weeks and attend Monday night meeting. Rev E W Sommers assisted by Rev Wood will lead the sermon. Attendance at Freedom roll call meeting was low due to rain. H H Graham preached elsewhere. Goldman Patterson sold thirty seven acres to C R Lay for 1050 cash. The Cunningham party was a success with thirty girls present. Brown and others from Cardwell visited Springfield. E T Perkins visited M E Perkins at Battle. W H Lay bought a jack from W L Graham, not Cocanougher as rumored. Elvan Royalty’s house and contents burned. loss about 2000. G W Shirley bought cattle for 35, sold hogs for 59 and sheep for 153. John Dennis’s family visited Richard Pinkston’s near Willisburg. Cleo Dennis visited G W Shirley’s grandparents. Anna and Susie Graham stayed with Irvine Royalty. Otha Dennis visited Addie Keeling. Mrs J W Satterly and daughter Burkhead visited Mrs George Shirley. Miss Birdie Brown of Sharpsville improving after illness. Miss Imma Hyatt of Mackville to teach Pleasant Hill school. she is popular and welcomed.
E. G. Holliday bought two fat cows from W. L. Graham at 2 cents, one from J Graham at 2 cents, one from S. H. Gardner at 2 cents, and steers at 34 cents. He also bought two horses from E. T. Perkins at 30 and 50 dollars. Perkins sold a four year old horse to Mr. Sweeney of Lawrenceburg for 95 dollars. W. L. Graham bought several male colts at 60 to 80 dollars, and a milch cow from W. D. White for 24 dollars. H. J. Brown to Jesse Prewitt, a yearling filly for 6 dollars, and a milch cow from J. A. Kyler at 25 dollars. J. W. Perkins bought a mare for 50 dollars.
Rain improved conditions in Pleasant Hill as corn and tobacco look good. The community sends best wishes to Mr Garland Cunningham on his recent marriage. Wheat and oats prospects are bright, and work on the new Christian church at Mackville continues.
Miss Jennie Lillard, a top Anderson county farmer, delivered to Andrew Hawkins a 35 head lamb weighing about 75 pounds and priced at six cents per pound. She also sent the finest growing wheat specimen seen, with long well filled heads. She predicts the crop will be ready to cut within a week.
Mrs. W P Cheatham spent a day with Mrs. Frank Ash in Pulliam. Davis Noel bought a horse from Walter Foley. Mrs. James Oder and family visited W M Sutton. Mrs. Eliza Leathers stayed with her daughter Mrs A C Pinkston. Lena Gibbs visits her sister Mrs Hobbs. Davis Noel and Artie Sutton spent Sunday at Tatham Springs. Several from here attended Willisburg services. Clarence Hays, ill with consumption, died Sunday and was buried at Glen's Creek. Condolences extended.
Dr Price W Wells sells the Red Cross Drug Store to Dr J Smock and Mr Leo Hayden who will take charge after invoicing. Wells may pursue another venture, possibly a Cincinnati position. Smock and Hayden are well known locally and bring experience to the business.
In the case of James Walsh versus Ben Walden a commissioner sale held last Monday sold a fifty acre tract near Maple Hill. Purchasers were H. Weakley and W. T. Comstock at 18 dollars and 50 cents per acre.
Mike Hanrahan of Nelson county and Virginia avenues pledges work on street improvement once preliminary matters are arranged.
W. B. Hawkins rejected reports that financing of the Tobacco Growers Company had failed and said a committee works on reorganization. He denied any abandonment and claimed efforts continue. The defunct group aimed to control the barley tobacco crop and had collapsed last year for lack of funds.
Hillsboro reports show Mr Perry Ruby and wife visiting Chaplain area in law with Shields family. Courting, church attendance at Mackville and Fenwick, and county court sparsely attended due to farming. Miss Graham VanArscale dies. Mamie Merritt to teach fall term. Brother John Key to preach next Sunday evening.
