Jack McChord of Springfield represented Central University in the inter-collegiate oratorical contest at Lexington. He delivered The Rum Maniac and, despite younger age, impressed judges and peers with his natural eloquence and poised manner. Fellow contestants included Kenner, Stanley Squires, Knotte, Bryant, and Becket.

Mr. John M. Lair died at home of daughter Mrs. TG Tatum in Gofelodke Monday at age seventy three after illness. Death caused by general breaking down. He was a devout Baptist, beloved by all, survived by a wife and seven children. Burial at Valley Hill this morning.

Two suits filed in the circuit court by Mrs Grace M Wilhoun and Mrs Holne Cleaver seeking 2500 damages each from Louisville and Nashville Railroad Co alleging they were refused entry to a coach for colored passengers on November 10 and forced to ride in the segregated car before being moved to the correct coaches.

Ed Romaine aged about 75 died last Friday at his father G W Romaine's home after mental decline and time in Lakeland asylum. His funeral was held at Fair Mound cemetery with many friends in attendance. Also noted is a Kentucky legislative bill to amend section 1899 to permit seining and a notice for creditors of YF Gribbins deceased to file claims by May 1, 1906.
